FAYETTEVILLE -- Police were looking Tuesday night for a man who robbed the First State Bank at Mission Boulevard and Crossover Road earlier in the day.

An unarmed man wearing black socks on his hands walked into the bank at 3401 Mission Blvd. about 3:41 p.m. Tuesday, demanded money from a teller and left on foot with an undetermined amount of money, according to a police report. The police dispatching center received a "teller hold-up alarm," followed by a 911 call from bank personnel reporting the robbery.

No other details of the robbery were available Tuesday night.

The man was seen walking east on Mission from the bank after the robbery, according to police dispatchers' information.

An orange all-terrain vehicle with a silver trailer was spotted sitting west of the bank with its flashers on before the robbery occurred, according to police scanner information. There was no confirmation from police whether it was connected to the robbery.

The suspect was described as a white man, 6 feet 3 inches tall with a stocky build, weighing about 260 pounds, in his mid- to late-20s, according to a police report. He may have also had some beard growth on his face. He was wearing a light gray, hooded sweatshirt with jeans and sneakers.

Police have video surveillance photos from the bank of the suspect, according to a police report.

The bank was taped off most of the afternoon as Fayetteville police checked for fingerprints and footprints outside the bank and also took crime scene photos, while others began setting up a perimeter a mile or so around the Mission Boulevard and Crossover Road area.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Arkansas State Police assisted Fayetteville in the search.

There were more than 12 units searching for the suspect, according to police scanner information. The officers checked various neighborhoods from Joyce Street and Old Wire Road to Township Street and Crossover Road.

Officers then searched the area of the Candlewood subdivision and back to the east by Starr Street and the Covington Park area, according to scanner information.

Officers also used a police dog to track the area but were not successful in finding the suspect and gave up the search just after 5 p.m., according to police scanner information.

This same branch of First State Bank was robbed in 2002, according to a police report. Larry J. Allen, 47, a tile layer, robbed the branch on March 22, 2002, along with two other robberies he committed in April at the First Security Bank in Fayetteville and at a Hindsville bank. Allen was convicted of the three crimes.

Fayetteville police are coordinating the investigation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department or the FBI.
