The building that housed Food Town grocery store in downtown Rogers has been sold to Antonio Almaraz of Springdale, who is going to reopen it as a Hispanic grocery.
Almaraz owns El Ranchito Supermercado in Springdale and plans to rename the Rogers store El Ranchito, he said.
Food Town, located at Second and Maple Streets, was previously owned by Bill Suggs, who closed the store in May after it had been in business for 50 years.
Almaraz said he plans to remodel the 12,000-square-foot building and add a bakery. He expects to employ between 15 and 20 people, he said, and have the store open by November.
Almaraz said he has many customers from Rogers who shopped at his Springdale store and asked him to open a grocery in Rogers. The only other Supermercado in Rogers is owned by Harp's at Dixieland and Walnut.
