SILOAM SPRINGS -- John Brown University is joining forces with Kanakuk Kamps in Missouri to provide youth workers the opportunity to earn a master's degree in ministry.
The university announced the exclusive partnership to about 300 youth workers at the campground in Branson, Mo., on Friday.
The Kanakuk Kamps are offering course credit toward a university master's degree in youth and family ministry.
"When this idea was first presented, it seemed to be a perfect fit for JBU and Kanakuk," said Cary Balzer, director of the university graduate ministry program.
The year-long program including training in ministry and experience in the field prepares students for service in church and para-church ministries.
Students also would take classes at the university, to include research on the sociological, cultural, theological and psychological dynamics of contemporary ministry to children, teens and their families, said Richard Ellis, dean of graduate and professional studies.
"It's a great combination," Ellis said.
Online courses focus on youth and children ministry, relationship principles and Christian education.
