FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas remained in the third tier of national university rankings in a report released by U.S. News & World Report.
The annual report ranks 249 colleges and universities across the country. Changes in the report’s categories this year make comparisons to previous reports invalid.
The report lists University of Arkansas in third tier, but does not show numerical placements beyond the second tier.
Some similar statistics from previous reports included the six-year graduation rate, which is up three points this year to 56 percent. That figure, however, is below the anticipated 65 percent graduation rate assigned in the report.
Peer assessment, a value assigned by similar schools, was up to 2.9 out of a possible 5 this year. The assessment score was 2.8 in 2004, but dropped last year to 2.7.
A peer assessment score of 3.3 helped the Sam M. Walton College of Business to a nine-way tie for 42nd-ranked business school in the nation. The college tied for 24th ranking last year.
University of Arkansas reported an alumni giving rate of 21 percent, one of 74 schools surveys where alumni giving was higher than 20 percent. The highest giving rate reported was 61 percent at Princeton University.
Princeton also took home the top ranking among all universities, followed by Ivy League competitors Harvard and Yale.
Arkansas is one of six universities to report a 99 percent rate of full-time faculty. Only one university, the University of Nebraska, reported 100 percent full-time faculty.
Arkansas also reported that 36 percent of classes had 20 students or less, while only 15 percent of classes were taught to groups of 50 students or more.
Also factored into the ranking were acceptance rates, where Arkansas admitted 87 percent of applicants, and freshman retention rate, where the university showed 83 percent returning after freshman year.
Median ACT test scores at the university ranged between 22 and 28 out of a possible 36.
The only other school in the state included in the rankings was University of Arkansas-Little Rock, which was ranked in the fourth tier.
The report included both public and private schools.
