LITTLE ROCK -- Arkansas sophomore tailback Darren McFadden found little consolation in setting a school record for rushing yards in a season Friday.
He found no comfort in knowing he had rushed for 182 yards and scored 2 touchdowns on 21 carries.
And he couldn't imagine being the least bit satisfied after his team's 31-26 loss against LSU in War Memorial Stadium.
But McFadden didn't pout. He didn't bellyache. He didn't cry.
McFadden, a 6-foot-2, 212-pound sophomore from nearby Pulaski Oak Grove, finished the regular season with 1,485 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns.
"It (the rushing record) felt great, but it came at a bad time," McFadden said. "I just have to credit the offensive line. Without them, I wouldn't be able to run anywhere."
The previous record was 1,387 yards set by Madre Hill in 1995.
"Darren, he's a hard runner," said Felix Jones, who finished with 137 yards on 16 carries. "I mean, it's just good to have someone like him on the team. He just makes you work even harder when he does things like that.
"We all appreciate him. It was good that he set the record in his hometown. I'm glad for him. I just want to congratulate him."
McFadden's biggest run of the game was his most exciting. His 80-yard touchdown run with 10 minutes, 31 seconds left in the game help cut LSU's lead to 24-19.
"The offensive line did a great job like they've been doing all year," McFadden said. "They sealed off their blocks and I just hit the hole running.
"The safety came over the top and he overran the play a little bit and I hit it. It was a good feeling. I looked up at the Jumbotron and it looked like they were all behind him.
"I just kind of slowed down a little bit."
