Florida outgained Arkansas 396 to 311 in total yards on Saturday, but the Hogs’ defense kept battling hard enough to help Arkansas make a game of it.

Two of the Gators’ TDs were of the cheap variety — they needed to cover just nine yards after blocking a Jacob Skinner punt, and later scored when Wondy Pierre-Louis recovered Arkansas punt returner Reggie Fish’s muff in the end zone.

Hogs defensive end Jamaal Anderson, who had four tackles and helped set an early tone, said, “It was a well-fought game. We started out kind of slow, but in the second half we got the momentum and produced very well. Just a couple of mistakes here and there would have changed the outcome of the game.”

After Arkansas pulled within 17-7 in the second quarter, Florida threatened again before intermission but the Hogs’ defense was able to stop the Gators on downs at the Arkansas 45 with three seconds left in the half.

Defensive end Antwain Robinson gave Arkansas a big spark by running an intercepted shovel pass back 40 yards for a touchdown with 8:33 left in the third quarter for a 21-17 UA lead.

Randy Kelly led Arkansas with 12 tackles, followed by John Johnson with 7 and Sam Olajubutu with 6.
