FAYETTEVILLE -- Playboy Magazine is looking for Razorback coeds.

The men's magazine will arrive Monday in Fayetteville for two days of auditions, seeking University of Arkansas women interested in appearing in the magazine's "Girls of the SEC" pictorial.

The magazine publishes a collection of college women from different conferences each year. The Southeastern Conference was last featured in 2001, with one University of Arkansas representative, said Stephen Prelog of Playboy.

The auditions are open to any full- or part-time female University of Arkansas students. A location for the auditions will be announced later this week, Prelog said.

Women interested in auditioning can call (312) 401-7343 for information. The pictorial is scheduled to appear in the October issue of Playboy.

But on the same token, I feel that it is these young ladies decision... I can say (being a woman) that this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity for most and i feel nudity can be portrayed in a tasteful manner.... let's just agree on this... there are beautiful women in Northwest Arkansas, let's be proud that the rest of the world is willing to recognize that much... and not only that but i seriously doubt that they would recruit or "hire" anyone that is not of age, so i would not be worried about "exploiting" younger females that are and have been exposed to even worse things than a newspaper with a goof. Sex sells, it is a fact.. let these ladies make their decisions on their own and let those ladies parents have to deal with the embarassment. If I was a young college student in need of money or a single mom in need of money to feed my child & keep a roof over my head I would pose. The women that pose for the magazines are doing so on their own FREE WILL - If I had the nice trim body that some of these women have to day I would pose - to me Playboy is a much cleaner adult mag. than Hustler or Penthouse those are nasty and degrade women. Playboy doesn't exploit women in nasty poses like the other mags do. So Kudos to any woman/young lady that choses to do this and to everyone cancelling their subscribtions because of this ad - GET A LIFE - we no longer living in the stone age and stop pretending to be so offended - after all your not perfect! After their pictures are published in the magazine, and guys see them sprawled out all over their monthly subscriptions, guys all over campus will NEVER look at them the same. The girls will never be the same, from then on they will just be a goal for all of the boys to try to "win". Instead of women they will effectively become a trophy. This could lead to friends trying to see them, but also predetors trying to get their sneak peek at the "famous girls" even if it means seeing them and being with them by force (rape). This is truely sad for the girls, I wish them all the best of luck. God Bless "

Why dont I take the names of the folks that get these magazines delivered and publish them? FREE SPEECH, and it's why we live here. " 1) "this isn't a newspaper" couldn't be more wrong in saying Morning News is a subset of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. The 2 R completely separate & always have been, & in fact compete for circulation in NWA. (The D-G is delivered w/ the NWA Times in Washington County & with the Benton County Daily Record, so that's probably where your confusion lies.) 2) This isn't a moral observation, but a practical one: I often wonder how these college girls who pose nude for high-circulation magazines & videos fare in the real world when it comes time to applying for jobs & working at a company. I would imagine there is hardly a company where they could go where there's not at least one person who recognizes them. Lord knows it's still hard enough for women in the workplace as it it; they don't make as much money as men nor get promoted as much. How many of these girls will be passed over for jobs or promotions, or get fired once their past becomes known? How many will have 2 endure rumors, assumptions, snickering, additional harassment, etc., because of it, or simply feel the pain of not being taken seriously or have co-workers doubt their work skills/talent? I feel sorry for these girls, who don't yet realize how the world works, & who, facing peer pressure, financial pressures or who simply find themselves in these situations after drinking, get exploited by SnoopDogg or Playboy. " P.S.: Have noticed that today's young women don't have much in the way of, obviously, a memory of, or even a concept of the history of, the women's movement of the '60s and '70s; they definitely relate more to Helen Gurley Brown than to Gloria Steinem. Most probably have no knowledge of how Steinem went undercover as a Playboy bunny to expose what she contended was that company's exploitation of women. Also, I think women of every generation since have probably had 2 learn the hard way that fashion trends don't necessarily translate into appropriate office attire, and that going w/ fashion can easily get you harassed or written up by the boss or sent home to change; only instead of the relatively tame sheer fabrics and high skirts of the '80s, there have been the low-rise jeans and plunging necklines of the new millenium. But who expects these young women to be familiar w/ all this? Sometimes the guidance of parents, friends and co-workers could go a long way to helping know the consequences and allow them to make truly informed decisions. OK, so that's 4 observations, but my point is that things change culturally over time and sometimes young people really need guidance from an older generation. Making this into a moral debate, in a way, just lets the pro and con sides spin their wheels and doesn't address the women who are really being affected by this magazine's visit. "

Unfortunately, most women do not have stacks of PlayGirl in their closets, they don't sneak around drooling over the airbrushed men...so maybe it is a bit of jealousy that they aren't as perverted as their male counterparts are? Yeah...good intellingent point? Maybe it is jealousy that makes women upset that the MorningNews is promoting the exploitation and the use of Pornography....but hey...like someone said before...would they promote a stripclub (that acts in a artful respectful manner?) And the discrimination for posing some imply will occur hasn't. "

If someone is not able to be comfortable in their own skin, that is their problem and should find a way to be happy. I feel I am a beautiful woman, inside and out. There are people who accept the fact that some of the young ladies are willing to pose for Playboy and then there are those that feel it is sinful that they do this. If they are legally over 18 the girls can make their own choice. This is a free country and what they decide to do is up too them. No one can or should make those decisions for them. The newspaper is just reporting information, just like they would advertise for a church program. The churches advertise on television, newspapers, radio and any other media they can get ahold of. Back off the newspaper. They are doing just what the churches do. "

why does nudity = no brains? wrote on Mar 14, 2007 6:02 PM:

" If one is to live by social standards, that individual will find themself living another person's life and not their own. Why is it that when our society thinks of playboy models, they think of brainless individuals? I posed for Playboy. I am in college, in nursing school, and for my whole life I have been an honor student with a high GPA. Also another thing to consider is that some women pose because they find it liberating, an experience. It is not always for the money. Not only men buy the magazines and there are many more magazines that contain a higher degree of nudity. "

Playboy is just looking for girls that go to the UofA they aren't sponsoring it. Also the paper is just doing its job. They take money to post adds and to inform the community whether there is a celebrity in town, a community event, a fund raiser or special event. There are all kinds of people (obviously after ready this blog)in NWA so they have to adapt to everyone reading without certain views. BTW, I like the Ronnie Floyd comments on here, doesn't it make anyone else mad that that new church cost 34 million to build. I better walk up in there and go straight to heaven for 34 million!!! "
