ROGERS -- Rogers officials may banish cars from parking in yards, leaving just shrubbery, bicycles and garden gnomes standing.

The Rogers City Council's Community, Environment and Welfare Committee will further discuss Tuesday an ordinance to prohibit cars parked in yards of residential structures.

Alderman Bob Goodwin said he's received feedback from residents who say it's a problem all over Rogers.

The council did look into adopting a version of Springdale's regulation on restricting parking in residential yards.

Alderman Greg Hines said the Springdale regulation is "very comprehensive." Hines said Rogers already has several ordinances in place that cover certain aspects of the Springdale ordinance.

"Everyone had different ideas on how it was to be worded," he said.

Fire Chief Wesley Lewis said cars parked in the yard limit firefighters from seeing a house number and also makes it difficult to pull fire hoses around such yards.

Lewis said his biggest concern is that a child could run into the street from behind a parked car and a motorist would not able to stop in time to avoid an accident.

Rogers City Attorney Ben Lipscomb was asked to review ordinances other than Springdale's and bring them back to council, Hines said.

The committee will also discuss on Tuesday changes to regulations regarding graffiti as a nuisance in Rogers.

Goodwin said the ordinance would require the graffiti to be covered up as quickly as possible. He said the graffiti loses its impact if it's cleaned up within 72 hours.

The council will also vote on adopting an airport master plan Tuesday. The Rogers Airport Commission approved on Wednesday a plan to purchase 150 acres of property for runway expansion.

" How would Bob Goodwin know ANYTHING about graffiti? I moved here thirty years ago from LA California becuse this is where my Grandad was from. I am disabled due to a Heart attack and Stroke that i had in 2002, and if someone spray painted the side of my house, its brick, i dont know how i would be able to clean it up in a timely fashion as he wants done. I also know that when you cleanup something like these clowns do they will do it again the next night. I will just be darned if im going to use the small amount of money i have for food each month to spend it on cleanup of this sort! "

" There is an aerosol spray out on the market called DEMARK, I think it's made by Certified Labs. It works great for removing graffiti, just spray it on and wipe it off. When I worked in the hotel industry there was also a product (but can't remember the name of) that we would spray on in areas where graffiti was a problem. We would spray it on to rock walls, buildings, signs, etc. and when dried any other spray paints that were applied afterwards would merely run off. It ended our problem real quick. Maybe the city could look into it. "

" I was trying to offer a graffiti remedy to a disabled person. If you want the graffiti left on your property then leave it there, which I sure you will, since it seems as though you have more important issues that need to be addressed. If you have actual proof as to who it was that is spraying the graffiti, than I suggest that you do your civic duty and contact the authorities and tell them you are an eye witness to ALL of the graffiti that has been sprayed around the city. Then maybe "they" will be behind bars. "

" a problem all over Rogers? I don't think so. I rarely see it and I drive every where in this city. But, if they do pass it, they better not start griping about people parking on the street. "

" They ought to ban street and yard parking in my opinion if you have that many cars perhaps you should add on to your driveway or move to seligman and start a salvage yard. No reason for everyone else in the neighborhood to look at that junk. "
