Altman Has Change Of Heart

FAYETTEVILLE — A source close to the Arkansas basketball program confirmed around 6 p.m. Tuesday that Dana Altman wouldn’t become Arkansas’ coach and would stay at Creighton.
Altman was introduced as Arkansas’ 14th coach in school history Monday.

" Local channels are reporting the same. Seems, Creighton is having a meeting with the team at 8 or 9 tonight and Altman is present? I just don't get it? Can't blame anyone but Altman for this. A man is only as good as his word. If he backs out we don't need or want him. Come on Frank, get us a coach, one that can take us all the way. Get Vinney!! I heard he wants the job! " Altman seemed like a nice guy and a good fit for Arkansas ,but maybe he has deeper roots in Omaha.He didn't seem to sure when he held the press conference at Arkansas.Maybe he feels a bit overwhelmed by the step up to the sec conference.They say you don't know what you have till its gone!!!! "

" Okay, so the guy stayed long enough to embarrass himself by calling the Hogs. Let's capitalize on the chaos and have a reality show called "Who Wants to Coach the Razorbacks?". " Good luck getting another major coach in there after a "mid-major" declined after he has basically runined his rep for a couple years, looks like that new AD is needed quicker than expected, sorry to Razorback fans and not giving Altman any credit as he was/is making 1.4 mil here in OMA and playing games like this does not reserve respect, embarrasing to both programs. Local stations are eating this up in Omaha and saying they should have a welcome party, he better have a good reason for this mess. "

" The entire athletic program is a mess. Part is probably due to Frank, part due to fans who have a hard time separating Razorback world from the real world.
Lets see if there is MAYBE one or two things that Arkansans could more profitable focus on, rather than Razorback sports.

They missed on their bad assumption that Gillispie would come running at the job offer. There was no plan B. In their rush to make a hire, they obviously did a poor due diligence with regards to Altman's interest and commitment level. Let's face it, with a lame duck AD and all the recent bad publicity, what "top tier" coach would want the job? "

To restore the integrity of the program, Chancellor White should accept his resignation. The press conference to introduce Altman was botched and looked amateurish.
The Hog Call was totally unnecessary and Broyles didn't even introduce Altman with any degree of decorum.
Find a new AD who will coach basketball and offer him the combined position. That may attract a good coach and send a message to Nutt to get his resume ready as well.
This makes the state of Arkansas look like a bunch of yokels, which we are not, but it's gonna be the talk of the sports media nationally for weeks to come. Maybe we ought to listen to Jay Bilas for a change. "

" What a circus! Frank should have been gone 10 years ago and has contributed to the U of A athletic program losing a lot of credibility. The truth is no great coach will come to the U of A until Frank is "officially" gone. I personally thought this was a rebuilding year for the basketball program and that Heath did a pretty decent job. "
