LITTLE ROCK -- Green Party member Rebekah Kennedy, who lost a bid for state attorney general last year, says she will run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Mark Pryor.

Kennedy, 28, acknowledged Friday that her bid to unseat the Democrat incumbent is a long shot. She plans to make her formal announcement on Earth Day, April 22.

A Fort Smith attorney, Kennedy won about 4 percent of the vote in the November election. Dustin McDaniel, a Democrat, won the race.

Pryor is seeking a second term. He recently announced that he has collected nearly $2.1 million in campaign contributions. Kennedy has raised about $150.

No Republican has announced for the Senate seat.

Kennedy said she is opposed to the war in Iraq and supports alternative energy development.

In order to get on the 2008 ballot, the Green Party will have to gather 10,000 signatures within a 60-day period. Kennedy said the party hasn't decided yet when to begin collecting signatures.

" I wish more citizens ran for public office. I won't be voting for either of these candidates, but I salute Kennedy for at least attempting to run as a third party candidate. I urge more citizens to get involved in their local, state, and federal elections and their various subsets...school boards etc. "

Not a bright future with this candidant or any other government is violence wrote on Apr 17, 2007 1:45 PM:

" As Ludwig von Mises writes: It is important to remember that government interference always means either violent action or the threat of such action. The funds that a government spends for whatever purposes are levied by taxation. And taxes are paid because the taxpayers are afraid of offering resistance to the tax gatherers. They know that any disobedience or resistance is hopeless. As long as this is the state of affairs, the government is able to collect the money that it wants to spend. Government is in the last resort the employment of armed men, of policemen, gendarmes, soldiers, prison guards, and hangmen. The essential feature of government is the enforcement of its decrees by beating, killing, and imprisoning. Those who are asking for more government interference are asking ultimately for more compulsion and less freedom. "
