Enriquez Martinez-Araujo pleaded guilty in Springdale District Court to a variety of charges stemming from an incident involving his five pit bull dogs.

Araujo was fined $500 for five counts of harboring a vicious animal and $54 victim restitution for veterinarian fees.

Araujo's dogs attacked another dog and threatened a woman before being chased out of the yard by the woman's husband, who was wielding a sword.

Additionally, Araujo was fined $125 for five counts of no rabies tags, $100 for five counts of no license tags and $100 for five counts of allowing an animal to run at large.

He was also assessed $100 in court costs.

Together, the fines and court costs amounted to $979.

City officials put down two of the five pit bulls and will put down another two dogs. Only one dog out of the five remains in Araujo's ownership.

Araujo agreed with the city's decision to euthanize the dogs, according to a spokesperson for the Springdale city attorney's office.

" they need to ban pit bull dogs..his fines are a joke those pit bulls kill alot more kids and adults then any other dogs "

" So, what happens when a different breed injures or kills someone? Oops, not a pit bull, so you can go scott free. Vicious Dog laws are the only way to maintain any kind of rules. There are plenty of gentle pit bulls out there, just like there are plenty of vicious mutts or other terriers. It's the owners that are usually at fault, for either raising them like that, or not recognizing them and not putting them down. "

" I used to hear the argument about banning pit bulls and think that it was stupid because they were no different than any other breed just misunderstood or treated badly by their owners. But after reading several articles that they are more genetically prone to violence I don't know what to think. I have seen many gentle pit bulls. I even had one when I was a child, that my family never had a problem with. But then again we lived out in the country not in a busy suburb. "

" Pit bulls are noble, intelligent animals. In fact, they are generally smarter than the people who own them. "

" I was never raised w/this breed but after having my own and now rescueing this breed i can tell you different. People are ignorant unless they have first handed owned the breed. I have been rescuing these dogs for over 3 yrs and the director has been for over 8 years. There are some dogs that shouldn't be alive but this includes other breeds as well. Some of them show aggression as puppies, that is, where you have to watch them. If this is a sign then get advise from a rescue. If they harm people then they should be euthenized immediately. Out of my experience all the dogs that i have recieved showed no aggression towards people or animals. If this was the case i would advise them to euthenize the dogs. Its all in how a person raised ANY dog, and if there was a small breed involved w/this incident then they would of been attacking as well. Its nature for a dog to attack in a pack. The dog whisper has alot of help on this breed as well he understands the mentality of dogs. I don't think a ban will help, fining the OWNER is the one who needs to be punished. It was his neglect for letting the dogs run loose. "

Pit Bulls are Dangerous wrote on May 9, 2007 10:04 AM:

" Time and time again it`s in the news. Crippled lady tries to protect her dog from pit bulls and gets mauled. These are the real true stories out there. It`s never ending. Anyone that owns a pit bull is asking for big time trouble and yes they should be responsible for what their dogs do. Ban those dogs. "

A good point Mike wrote on May 9, 2007 10:07 AM:

" Yes it does seem the dogs are smarter than the people who own them. And more Dangerous. People who own Pit Bulls are legally putting themselves in a very dangerous liable position that could cost them their lifes savings. Something to ponder on. "

" Dogs are trained to be aggressive everyday. Police dogs, guard dogs. they know what they are taught. i have had dogs my whole life and never have felt threatened. my grandmother had a german shepard inside the house and we played with him like he was a puppy and he never once threatened us. a friend had pits her whole life and never had an issue. it is an arrgument in people as well as in animals... NATURE OR NURTURE think about it... "

" I have a pit bull. He is 9 years old and has never shown any aggression toward another dog or person. He was trained originally as a therapy dog for a handicapped person. It is not usually the dog but the owner or the trainer that ruins the animal. "
