FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas quarterback Casey Dick was the only player Thursday to don a black jersey, the type of laundry that lets defensive players know they need to pull up.

Four more players wore the jerseys Friday, on the second day of Arkansas football practice in full pads.

A day after top wide receiver Marcus Monk bruised his knee on a big hit by free safety Michael Grant, coach Houston Nutt also had Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, Peyton Hillis and Michael Smith in black.

Nutt said Monk's injury wasn't the ultimate reason for putting his four best running backs off limits for hits.

"We were about to do it anyway," Nutt said. "It was good timing. The defense has been pretty frisky, and that's the way you want (the defense). They were very physical (Thursday)."

Injury Report

In addition to Monk, sophomore tight end Ben Cleveland missed Friday's practice. Cleveland suffered a strained nerve in his neck. Cleveland had also injured his left hand his left hand in a blocking drill.

Two defensive linemen sustained minor injuries Friday. Arkansas defensive line coach Tracy Rocker said senior defensive end Chris Wade "got popped" in the chin. Junior defensive end Antwain Robinson slowly jogged off the practice field after having trouble fighting through a sore knee.

Their status for today's scrimmage is unknown.

Kicking Duel

Nutt said the kicking battle between freshman Alex Tejada and junior Jeremy Davis has been beneficial.

Tejada didn't miss any of his three 37-yard kicks Thursday during field-goal attempts with a full line and rush. Davis converted two and missed two from 37 yards.

Extra Points

Arkansas will hold a scrimmage tonight, open to the public, at 6 p.m. in Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The Razorbacks will have a morning workout (closed to the public) before the scrimmage.

" The BLACK JERSEYS are definitely necessary to avoid injuries to key players. "

" thats a tough one. I do remember the fumbles against usc. I say put a black jersey on d-mac and make everyone else fair game. Yes Casey too. WE have five more just like him so let him take some hits. "

" We should put black jersey's on the entire team since you cannot recruit depth here at Arkansas. One injury and we are done. "

" Typical Nutt, his best receiver gets hurt and he puts 4 running backs in black jerseys, but not one receiver. Nutt knows he can get an english major to trot off down field from the wideout spot and attract a defender, thus taking that defender away from the running game. Ever notice how Houston's actions are always counter to his verbage as it pertains to the passing game. Either he knows most of our receivers couldn't start for little sisters of the poor or he just doesn't care, wasn't planning on using them anyway. "

" Wouldn't it be kind of hard to find your 2nd and 3rd reciever, to conpliment Monk, if they aren't going full speed? Monk is the only one who has proven himself at WR. This is why he is the only one in black. "

hogfanintx wrote on Aug 13, 2007 10:41 AM:

" I believe 12247's point was it didn't much matter with the receivers since they are rarely part of our offensive game plan. "
