FAYETTEVILLE -- Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., will meet with local Democratic leaders and the public at a stop in Fayetteville during her Monday fundraising trip to Arkansas, her campaign announced Friday.

The former first lady of Arkansas and the nation will meet with local Democratic Party leaders at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Gloria Jean's Coffee in the old train depot on Dickson Street. The appearance will follow an invitation-only noon fundraiser at the home of longtime friends Suzie Stephens and Jim Hatfield of Fayetteville.

From here, Clinton will head to Little Rock for an afternoon address to supporters at County Plaza, across the street from the state Capitol.

Clinton's appearance in Fayetteville is not surprising, said Woody Bassett, a long-time friend of Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

"I know they have special memories of their days here, of teaching in the law school. They have a lot of friends still here," Bassett said. "Arkansas is going to be an important state in the election, and I think it's appropriate that she's here to raise some money and get out her message that she's who we need as president."

A waitress at Gloria Jean's Coffee said two men in dark suits and sunglasses appeared Thursday to check out the shop for a 'planned party' Monday afternoon.

"They looked just like Secret Service agents out of the movies," she said.

Clinton's Little Rock schedule already included a private meeting with state legislators and county officials at 4 p.m. Monday at the Association of Arkansas Counties headquarters near the Capitol, and a 5 p.m. fundraiser with young professionals at a cafe at the Little Rock Zoo.

The final scheduled event of the evening is another fundraiser in the home of Max Mehlburger and Kaki Hockersmith in Little Rock at 7 p.m.

The Associated Press on Friday reported sources with the Clinton campaign said Gov. Mike Beebe would endorse Clinton during Monday's events in Little Rock. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid pre-empting Beebe's public announcement.

Clinton has already won the backing of top Democrats in Arkansas, where husband Bill Clinton served 12 years as governor before beginning two terms as president in 1993.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel is chairing Hillary Clinton's campaign in the state and she has won the endorsement of four of the five Democratic members of the state's congressional delegation.
