CenturyTel Revenues Rise, Broadband Customer Base Grows

LITTLE ROCK -- The state's second-largest landline phone company reported Friday a 13 percent increase in second quarter revenues.
CenturyTel Inc.'s revenues rose from $608.9 million last year to $689.9 in the most recent quarter, the Monroe, La.-based rural telecom reported.
CenturyTel said its net income fell to $112.3 million from $152.2 million in the same quarter a year ago.
Excluding one-time charges in comparable quarters, however, CenturyTel's net income grew from $73.4 million last year to $78.4 million in the second quarter of 2007.
The company said it gained nearly 100,000 landline customers through the acquisition of a North Carolina company, and also added 30,000 broadband connections during the quarter. The company now serves more than 500,000 broadband customers, CenturyTel said.
Shares of CenturyTel (NYSE: CTL) closed Friday at $45.82, down $1.46.
