About four dozen symphony supporters assembled for Sips for the Symphony Aug. 17 at Compton Gardens in Bentonville for the North Arkansas Symphony Guild.
The annual Benton County membership party helped kick off the symphony's 53rd season.
Symphony guild board members on hand for the casual cocktail party included Nancy Young, Janet Hendren, Craig Young and Ellen Schnieder.
That same evening, the Rogers Public Library Foundation gained more than $3,000 from the inaugural "Literary License pARTy" at Poor Richard's Art in downtown Rogers.
The evening was in honor of "tremendous man and citizen," Dick Trammel, as Rob Brothers introduced him.
Dick was joined by Nancy Walker (who became Nancy Trammel on Aug. 19 -- congratulations!) Katie and Dino Buccolier, Teresa McCall and Tracy Bonner.
Among the approximately 200 book backers and art advocates on hand were Joan and Ed Clifford, Cynthia Coughlin, Betsy Phillips, Joe Spivey, Sally and Tom Gallyon, Mary Schopp, Sara Lyon and Michelle Webb.
The fourth annual Screamin' Chickens party landed Aug. 18 at the east Fayetteville Waterford Estates clubhouse. The joint birthday party for Wayne Barrack, Loyd McCord and Doc Holladay, whose birthdays are Aug. 12, 14 and 16, respectively, began when Wayne turned 65 in 2004 and the longtime friends parachuted out of a plane together.
Rather than "Screaming Eagles," as Wayne's brother had been as a former paratrooper, Doc announced, "I'm a screamin' chicken!" The name stuck for the celebration.
More than 100 friends joined the trio for the party that began at 11 a.m. and went until about 5 p.m.
The luncheon buffet was highlighted by extraordinary smoked barbecued ribs by David Royal and accented by plenty of margaritas and beer.
Birthday well-wishers included Nancy and Jim Blair, Gaye and Jim Cypert, Terrye and Patric Brosh, Bill Jenkins, Linda and Winford Phillips and Herman Tuck.
Suzie Stephens, Jim Hatfield and their fellow Ultimate Supper Club members hosted a luncheon fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at Monday at the Stephens-Hatfield home. The event was the brainchild of Suzie's daughter, Lauren Stephens, who is interning at the Washington, D.C. campaign headquarters.
Supper club member Leah Tucker told me they found out a little more than four weeks ago, right before the group's trip to Tahiti, that they would be hosting the fundraiser.
They planned the menu while in Tahiti and cooked for four days before the event. Fellow Ultimate Supper Club members are Kay and Doug Wright, Leah and Sterling Tucker, Martha McBride, Tom Harrison, Judy and Jim Hazen, Donna and Scott Stillwell and Pat and John Marcy.
About 150 supporters joined the group, raising more than $200,000 for the Clinton campaign.
The menu consisted of a baker's dozen of beautifully presented salads including caprese, salmon nicoise, chopped Cobb, Mama Lori's spinach, shrimp, tuna, chicken, Asian slaw, tortellini, chicken caesar and Arkansas fresh fruit with poppyseed dressing.
Suppporters joining the candidate for lunch included Don Tyson and Shelby Rogers, Missy and Bill Kincaid, Nancy and Jim Blair, Debbie Walker, Pat Walker, Brenda Gullett, Donna Buell, Ann and Morriss Henry, Woody Bassett, Betsy Phillips, Butch Clinton, David Malone, Mike Malone, Millie and Don Nelms, Elizabeth Moore, Jennifer Irwin and Fadil Bayyari.
