Distance Learning Conference Scheduled Friday In Rogers

The University of Arkansas Department of Education Reform will host a daylong look at distance learning in Arkansas at the Embassy Suites in Rogers on Friday.
The program will examine questions about how distance education can be used to help rural schools satisfy academic requirements in Arkansas with a focus on technical and legal barriers.
Panelists include Karen Ghidotti, director of the Arkansas Virtual Academy; Pam Scarber, assistant education director for the Arkansas Educational Television Network; and Mike Lar, program coordinator of the Distance Learning Center of the Arkansas Department of Education.
A panel of state senators -- Jimmy Jeffress, D-Crossett; Kim Hendren, R-Gravette; and Steve Bryles, D-Blytheville -- discuss legal and technical barriers to the use of distance education in Arkansas and the demand for services.
The conference runs from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. A continental breakfast will be available starting at 7:30 a.m., and lunch will be served at noon.
