SPECIAL TO THE MORNING NEWS

SPRINGDALE -- Need a break from college football or the World Series this weekend? Then Parsons Stadium has just the ticket.

Rodeo will take center stage this weekend as 200 high school cowboys and cowgirls are set to compete in the annual Springdale Riding Club Regional High School Rodeo.

The event will be spread over two days starting today at 11 a.m. and again on Sunday at the same time. This weekend's rodeo will be the 15th installment, and like other high school sports, athletes are required to maintain passing grades in each class, as their administrators must provide proof.

"We have an equal number of events for the boys and the girls because we want them both to have equal opportunities to participate," Springdale Riding Club president David Hoffarth said.

There are four scholarships on the line as well. A scholarship from the Springdale Riding Club will be awarded to both the top cowboy and cowgirl, based on total points. Two more scholarships will be awarded based on an essay each participant was required to write upon registering for the rodeo.

"We are definitely looking forward to having another successful rodeo, and we're excited for the kids to have this opportunity," added Hoffarth.
