FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas guard Patrick Beverley got off to a rough start to the season, but it improved as the night progressed.

He missed all four of his shots in the first half against Wofford and aggravated a right wrist injury when he took a hard foul while going up for a layup 2 minutes, 1 second before halftime.

By the time the second half started, the Southeastern Conference's reigning freshman of the year was 0-for-3 from 3-point range and had just three points in 15 minutes.

But Beverley picked up the pace, scoring 12 points in the second half to finish with a team-high 15 in Friday night's 67-45 win in front of an announced crowd of 13,196 in Bud Walton Arena. He also had five rebounds.

"Patrick has got to deal with this a little bit now. He's going to have to deal with being on everybody's (scouting) board, at the top in terms of preparation," Arkansas coach John Pelphrey said.

Pelphrey said Beverley was anxious early on and his emotions led to the slow start.

The sophomore didn't score his first points of the night until after he was fouled by Wofford guard Norm Nixon with 2:01 left in the first half.

Beverley injured his right wrist when he was hit from behind by Nixon, sending the guard crashing into the padding of one of the basketball goals.

Beverley got up slowly and shook his right wrist in pain as he walked to the free-throw line. He made the first of his two free throws, extending Arkansas' lead to 24-21.

"Earlier in the season, I kind of dislocated my same wrist, so it stung a little bit," Beverley said. "But everything's cool."

Sanchez Out

Former Springdale Har-Ber forward Michael Sanchez has decided to redshirt the season after he and his parents met with Pelphrey to discuss the freshman's options.

"Michael is going to redshirt. We had a conversation with he and his family and this is what Mike wants to do," Pelphrey said. "... He asked me what I thought. I was able to share with him some very real things because I did the same thing he did (at Kentucky).

"Michael is obviously more ready to play as a freshman than I was."

Pelphrey said Sanchez is physically ready to play college basketball and he would have seen some action this season, but it might not have been enough playing time to warrant wasting his freshman year.

"Just from my side, my experiences, there is no question he's going to be a better player in his fifth year than he is in his first year," Pelphrey said.

Sanchez's mother, Kim, also said her son suffered a broken finger last Tuesday during a practice.

Beer Time

Wofford coach Mike Young had one plan in mind after Friday's 67-45 loss to No. 19 Arkansas: He needed something to drink. And he needed something stronger than water.

Young ended his postgame news conference by stating, "I'm going to go have a Heineken." He also declared it was "Heineken time."

Fame-Ous Name

Wofford guard Norm Nixon might look familiar and his name should ring a bell.

Nixon is the son of former Los Angeles Lakers guard Norm Nixon, who played in the 1970s. He also has a famous mother, Debbie Allen, an actor and dancer best known for starring in the TV series "Fame."

Nixon finished with three points and two rebounds.
