Fayetteville Police Seek Man In Bank Robbery

FAYETTEVILLE -- A man wearing a bandana to cover his face robbed a First Security Bank branch at 11:27 a.m. on Saturday, police said.
The man was armed with a handgun, said Sgt. Shannon Gabbard, public information officer with Fayetteville Police Department.
This is the first time the First Security Bank at 2552 W. Sixth St., has been robbed and the third bank in Fayetteville robbed this year. It is also the seventh bank robbery in Washington County this year.
A call alerted police to the robbery, Gabbard said.
A man demanded money from the tellers and they provided the robber with an undetermined amount of cash. The man didn't injure any employees and there were no customers inside the bank at the time , police said.
A mid-size tan or silver sedan, possible a Toyota Camry, was seen leaving the area shortly after the robbery, police said.
Fayetteville police officers interviewed bank workers and canvassed the area looking for the man, described as white male, 18 to 30 years old, 160 to 200 pounds, 5'10"- to 6 feet tall. He was wearing a tan jacket, a neutral colored shirt, blue jeans, black shoes and a newsboy type hat, according to a police news release.

Two Regions Banks on West Sunset Avenue were also robbed on August and November, this year on Springdale.
One of the alleged suspects in one of the robberies of the Regions Bank was arrested Aug. 14 in connection with the robbery of the Medicine Shoppe in Springdale. Michael D. Holloway, 26, of 3842 Slape St., Johnson, apparently has told police he robbed Regions Bank in Springdale, as well as a Fayetteville branch of Arvest Bank on June 15, a second Arvest branch June 27 and a bank in Fort Smith.
Priority Bank in Fayetteville was robbed June 6 and the suspect remains at large, police said.
Arkansas National Bank in Springdale was robbed April 14, allegedly by brothers James and Wesley Sawney.
Both brothers were arrested and James Sawney, 24, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to pay $8,100 in restitution. He also pleaded guilty to a probation violation for domestic battery, and was given six years in prison to run concurrently.
Wesley Sawney Jr., 22, was found guilty of being an accomplice to aggravated robbery, theft of property, accomplice to arson and using a firearm in the commission of a crime.
He was sentenced to 22 years in prison. He was found guilty by a jury Oct. 15.
