Is that a record?
Although the Arkansas baseball media guide couldn't confirm it, a couple of records might have come crashing down at Baum Stadium on Saturday.
The first came off the bat of Aaron Murphree. With his solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, Murphree has now hit at least one homer in each of his last five games. The previous best that could be accounted for at Arkansas was four games in a row, most recently achieved by Brian Walker last season.
The next record might have occurred in the bottom of the seventh. During a 12-run inning - which also tied a school mark for runs in an inning - the Razorbacks had four batters hit by a pitch.
Oh, by the way
Murphree might have been overshadowed for a day by Arkansas pitcher Cliff Springston and the Razorbacks' defense. But that didn't mean the hot-hitting Razorback slowed down his incredible home run pace.
Murphree belted his 11th homer of the season to dead center field on Saturday, just past the outreached glove of Siena's Jason DeFilippo. The blast now gives Murphree nine homers in the past five games, while he also upped his runs batted in total to 25.
Murphree also stole his third base of the season - also a team-high so far in 2008 - and made a dazzling defensive stop on a tough ground ball at first base.
Murphree Meter
Nobody can honestly expect Murphree to keep this up throughout the entire season. Especially since the Razorbacks haven't even begun Southeastern Conference play. But just for fun, take a look at Murphree's pace for the season.
Murphree is in line to end the regular season with 56 home runs, 127 RBIs, 97 runs scored and 15 stolen bases.
