FAYETTEVILLE - It's a good thing for Arkansas fans that third baseman Logan Forsythe didn't suffer from a mild case of amnesia while missing six-straight games recently.
He still remembers how to field the baseball and hit it, too.
Forsythe did both, and very well, Friday night in helping the Razorbacks win 5-1 against Georgia in the Southeastern Conference opener in Baum Stadium in front of 5,137 fans.
He made two spectacular plays - that's par for the course for him - in the field and had a season-high three hits.
Forsythe, sidelined with hamstring pull before returning to the lineup Tuesday night against No. 2 Arizona State, looked like his old self.
"I hadn't seen a lot of pitching in awhile," Forysthe said. "My timing was a little off. Tuesday wasn't really a good day for me. I think I went 1-for-4.
"I mean, timing was off a little bit. I told coach, 'Hang in with me, I've just got to get my timing back.' He understands. The next day, I was seeing the ball a little better.
"Tonight, SEC opener, man. You got to get after it."
Forsythe made his first eye-popping defensive play in the second inning, drifting to his left and scooping up a grounder by Georgia's Matt Olson to open in the inning.
In the fourth, he dove to his left, popped up, and threw off one knee to second baseman Ben Tschepikow to start a double play to end the inning.
"I was trying to help (starting pitcher) Cliff (Springston) out," Forsythe said. "He did a great job tonight. Then, (Kendall) Korbal coming in behind him. Them two were phenomenal tonight. The way we can help them out is make plays like that.
"I got a good jump on the ball, made the play. I've got to thank Tschep (Tschepikow) for turning it. I've said before, he's one of the best second basemen I've played with."
More than anything, Forsythe was mighty happy to be back in Baum Stadium and helping his team win another game.
"Any time you open an SEC series with a Georgia or any team, there's going to be a battle," Forsythe said. "It's not going to be easy. No matter what your record is, it's always a battle. To get that first one under our belt, it's a great feeling.
"We've got to get after it tomorrow (today) and keep that same intensity."
