FAYETTEVILLE -- Members of the Reyes clan have been hit with a foreclosure suit for property on North College Avenue in Fayetteville after defaulting on payments, according to a lawsuit filed last week.

According to the lawsuit filed by D.C. Goff in Washington County Circuit Court, Arturo Reyes and his wife, Serafina Reyes, Arturo Reyes Jr. and his wife, Silvia, bought property at 2605 N. College Ave. from Goff and executed a $300,000 note bearing 7.5 percent interest and using the property to secure the debt.

According to the suit, the note has been in default since Jan. 9 and Goff is owed $291,563, plus $1,822 interest. Interest is still accruing at $51.91 per day, according to the suit.

Goff wants a lien placed on the property, and if the debt is not paid immediately, the property sold and all proceeds applied to satisfy the judgment.

The suit also names as defendants the Washington County tax collector, Elenita's Mexican Cafe and the United States of America. Those defendants also have claims pending for back taxes or judgments in other cases, but, according to Goff, those claims should come after he's paid.

The property is also part of a federal forfeiture action against 11 properties owned by a member or members of the Reyes family in Benton and Washington counties. The properties have a total appraised value of more than $3.6 million.

Reyes, 35, along with his wife, Silvia, brother Armando and an employee, Lucila Huaracha, face criminal charges of aiding and abetting and conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants for commercial advantage and private financial gain by employing them at Acambaro Restaurants and Garcia's Distributor. They're also charged with money laundering.

The Reyeses and Huaracha were arrested in a Dec. 10 raid by the Northwest Arkansas Immigration Criminal Apprehension Task Force.

Reyes was sued last week in federal court by a Little Rock food wholesaler. Quality Foods contends Reyes owes them $47,659 for fresh produce bought through his company, Garcia's Distributor.

" BORNANDRAISEDINROGERS...you didn't know that this is all just a government conspiracy to target hard working , honest , upstanding, good people. I am surprised all of you didn't know this already. These people shouldn't be charged with a crime for trying to make a better life for themselves and of course their employees. How dare the U.S. government label these people criminals. All they wanted to do was make great food for less. Just for the record i am being totally sarcastic here. "

" Illegal aliens get loans to acquire property from the funds that are backed by tax dollars. Funds that should go to people who are at least here legally.
We must insist on attrition through enforcement, but Pelosi will not call for a vote.
Enforcement would be mean that only legals would get social service, federal loans, employment. Take away the carrot for illegals to stay. Currently 41% of illegals get some kind of government assistance, and 60% of hud properties, intended for our own needy, are going to illegals.
Mexico has more billionaires then the US, let them subsidize their own people, we need to take care of our own. "
