American Eagle is dropping its Miami and Raleigh, N.C., service from the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA) in June and May, respectively.
"It was not operating at a profit," Kelly Johnson, XNA director, said of the Miami route.
The Raleigh route was originally established to help American bring a plane to its maintenance facility at XNA. The company has determined a more cost-effective way to route the plane, Johnson said.
The two cuts reduce XNA destinations, served by six airlines, from 17 to 15.
However, American is adding a seventh flight to Chicago. A start date for the new flight is unavailable, Johnson said.
Losing Miami and Raleigh as direct destinations shouldn't hurt traffic at XNA, Johnson said, because many of the travelers to those cities will still use XNA.
Enplanements at XNA in 2007 reached 598,866, up 2.1 percent over 2006. Enplanements for January and February - typically the slower time of the year -are up more than 7 percent.
