FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas did what it wanted to do and needed to do against Northern Colorado on Tuesday night.
It wanted to hit the baseball better and needed to get some work for some seldom-used players, who're coming off injuries.
Mission accomplished.
The Razorbacks did both in registering a 9-2 win against the Bears in front of 1,033 loyal fans in Baum Stadium.
"We got a chance to see a couple of pitchers we haven't seen in awhile," Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said. "(Mike) Bolsinger hasn't pitched in awhile. It's been a long while. It seems. It was good to see him out there.
"We're still trying to get some guys healthy and trying to get some of them back. I thought Casey (Coon) swung the bat real well. He stayed over a couple of pitches. It was good to get him out there, too.
"He did a pretty good job for us."
Right fielder Chase Leavitt went 3-for-3 to lead a nine-hit attack to provide Arkansas with an otherwise uneventful nonconference victory.
Arkansas (23-17) piled up four runs in the fifth inning, thanks in part to two Northern Colorado errors to move in front 8-2 to essentially put the clamps on the victory. Also in that inning, Leavitt had a two-out, two-run single.
"Leavitt had a really good start for us," Van Horn said. "He got three hits, a couple of RBIs. He kind of jump-started it for us. Got the two-out hit that got us the six-run lead.
"You know, a four-run lead is a good lead but a six-run lead is a whole lot better."
Arkansas started putting some separation between itself and Northern Colorado (14-25) in the fourth inning when it went ahead 4-2.
That inning was highlighted when the Razorbacks got back-to-back RBIs by Leavitt and Ben Tschepikow, on a single and double, respectively.
"We had some big two-out hits," Van Horn said. "We haven't seen him in a while."
Andrew Darr gave Arkansas its first lead with a solo home run to right field in the second inning.
The two teams meet again at 12:05 p.m. to conclude the series.
