FAYETTEVILLE - A Benton County inmate claims he's wasted away from 413 pounds to 308 in the eight months he's been in jail and he's making a federal case out of it.
Broderick Lloyd Laswell filed a prisoner civil rights lawsuit, without a lawyer, Friday in U.S. District Court in Fayetteville. He claims the jail doesn't provide inmates with enough food.
"On several occasions I have started to do some exercising and my vision went blurry and I felt like I was going to pass out," Laswell wrote in his complaint. "About an hour after each meal my stomach starts to hurt and growl. I feel hungry again."
Laswell claims he's lost about a half-pound a day.
"If we are in a small pod all day do next to nothing for physical exercise we should not lose weight," according to Laswell. "The only reason we lost weight in here is because we are literally are being starved to death."
Laswell further complains the portion sizes vary.
"There are noticeable differences on the size of biscuits and cakes, as well as the sides," according to Laswell, who also wants hot meals to be served from the jail's kitchen.
The Benton County Jail has served only cold food for years. The meals, provided through Aramark Correctional Institution Services, average 3,000 calories a day, according to Jail Capt. Hunter Petray.
Lawyers for capital murder defendant Manuel Enrique Camacho, who has been awaiting trial for almost two years, complained to a judge recently that he has lost significant weight while in the jail, going from 155 pounds to 118.

Here is the deal, dont like the food, well then you should not have put yourself in the position to be incarcerated.
No sympathy here especially when there are people all over the world, even here in the states that are lucky if they take in 1000 calories a day.
Ruck up bucko and deal with it! "

I take in less than that (approx 2000 max calories per day, am physically active most of the time and just about 2 years ago I gained 40 pounds bringing me up to my nominal body weight of 192 with 220 being the max.
Thing is that it doesnt matter if a meal is hot or cold, if you eat it you will stay alive and 3000 calories a day will keep up your nominal weight, that is unless you either refuse to eat or you have some ailment. If you are overweight you will most likely loose some before you stabilize, and if you are underweight you will most likely gain until you stabilize.
Contd........... "

As far as I am concerned he has no case and I hope the judge handling it is sane enough to see the same.
He thinks this is bad, maybe ship his rear off to basic training because let me tell you they will help him shed those extra pounds extremely fast and on a smaller per calorie a day intake, and 4 or 5 times the exercise he is even used to now.
I saw first hand how they treat overweight people in basic, and while I felt sorry for the individual in that situation it was understandable.
The size that this ole boy is at he would most likely have a heart attack trying to handle even the slightest of military training which is the equivalent of about 4 or 5 hours nonstop at the gym.
Try that out on a 2000 to 3500 calorie a day diet. Me and many others survived just fine and in fact were all the better for it.
Again no sympathy here at all. "

In order to stay as heavy as he was, he probably ate enough to feed a family. But you are right, that he does not understand that being in jail is not a reward and has the gall to complain.
I think the judge should refuse such frivolous cases, they are ridiculous and just cost money. Once upon a time there were chain gangs and prisoners dined on stale bread and water. Now they expect fine dining and plastic surgery.
On various news reports, food shortages around the world is predicted. And this guy thinks he should be provided enough food to stay obese. "

You have a prob with comments about large people, that's YOUR issue. The rest of us have the right to comment on how ridiculous it is for a morbidly obese person to complain about not getting enough food, and expect the jail to accommodate him. "

loose can be defined as - 1 a: not rigidly fastened or securely attached
LOSE is the word your looking for and can be defined as - to free oneself from : get rid of
Loss can be defined as the act of losing, as in Mr. I'm starving to death is suffering from the LOSS of fat which is better for him than the girth he once had.
I'm only doing this due to the constant misuse of the word loose and if I've offended anyone, well I'm not apologizing. "

my fiance' is in benton county jail and he complains that he is bored. i understand that if you do the crime you do the time but they need to give these people something constructive to do not just sit there for hours upon hours every day. there disciplinary actions are also another sore note.....there version of things is distorted! it took them 6 MONTHS to get his meds to him!!! 6 MONTHS this place is a work of art (i use the term art VERY loosely) i spent one night in this jail and let me tell you.....i had a deputy threaten to hit me and tase me because she thought i was getting smart with her. i was not. again i say check into what you are commenting about, most of you dont have a clue what goes on in there! But you don't stop at totally misquoting people, you resort to calling names rather than presenting an intelligent argument.
I have never hated anyone for being fat. I simply do not think the judicial system or the taxpayer should be required to accommodate a prisoner because he is accustomed to overeating. "

It is true, I usually feel sorry for a prisoners family, because it must hurt them indirectly, not true that everyone has a family.
In jail, they get three meals, which is more than many people get. I myself, only eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast with a cup of nonfat milk and a cup of coffee. A sandwich and a serving of vegetables is a good lunch to me. "
