Around The HORN: Diamond Hogs Notebook
Seven, Eight Or Out
Before Friday's game, Arkansas still had a chance to finish as high as fifth in the Southeastern Conference overall standings. But with the way the games turned out around the league, the Razorbacks can now finish no higher than seventh.
If Arkansas wins today and both South Carolina and Ole Miss lose, the Diamond Hogs will be the No. 7 seed at the SEC Tournament. If the Razorbacks win and only one of the aforementioned teams loses, that will put Arkansas in as the No. 8 seed.
And then, of course, if the Diamond Hogs lose it won't matter. That wouldn't mean a ninth-place finish and no SEC Tournament.
Bumps and Bruises
Arkansas catcher Ryan Cisterna left Friday's game in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch. Cisterna apparently took a pitch off his right hand and was immediately replaced by Jeff Nutt.
"It could be broken," Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said. "He hurt that same wrist back in the fall and he didn't have much of a grip. So that's not a good sign."
Short Hops
Arkansas' Cliff Springston pitched no-hit baseball through the first four innings before allowing a leadoff double in the fifth... Nutt went 0-for-3 Friday and is now in an 0-for-22 hitting slump... Arkansas hitters struck out 12 times in Friday's loss and have now fanned 24 times in the first two games of the series... The Razorbacks dropped to 11-5 in one-run games this season, including 0-2 this weekend.
