HOT SPRINGS - Voters in Hot Springs have approved a $1.2 million bond issue that will pay for a new climate-control system for the Mid-America Science Museum, bringing it up to standards to host Smithsonian exhibits.
In an election Tuesday, voters approved the bond issue by a more than 2-to-1 margin.
"We have cleared a huge financial hurdle," museum director Andy Marquart said. "We would have had to spend every dime of this, regardless of whether there was a bond or not."
The new system will allow the museum to better control humidity and climate - making it a more attractive place for museums' traveling exhibits.
"We'll have access to all the Smithsonian displays from 300 square feet to 30,000 square feet," Marquart said.
