FAYETTEVILLE - After spending a week in Fayetteville, Cam Feldt was sure he liked to spend four or five more years there as well.

So when the Pilot Point, Texas, junior offensive lineman got an offer from University of Arkansas offensive line coach Mike Summers on Saturday, Feldt (6-foot-4, 280 pounds, 5.4 40-time) wasted no time in jumping on board and becoming the Razorbacks' first 2010 pledge.

"I was very humbled by the offer and I have great respect and admiration for Coach Summers and the Arkansas program," Feldt said Monday while at the University of Texas football camp. "They have a great coaching staff, great facilities and the campus is just great. I can't see a better situation for myself so there was really no reason to wait around."

Feldt and fellow offensive lineman Colby Berna, a 2009 Razorback commit from Fayetteville, were arguably the two best offensive linemen in Bobby Petrino's Arkansas Football Camp last week.

"I met some really nice people up there and got to tour the campus and it felt so right," Feldt said. "I knew if I got an offer from Arkansas that it was the place for me and there would be no reason to wait."

Texas, Iowa and TCU had already shown interest in Feldt, but Arkansas had an in.

His dad, Blake Feldt, is a former college coach who once worked alongside UA assistant Tim Horton and now is the head coach at Point Pilot.

"My dad is now the head coach at our high school, but he coached on the college level for 15 years," Feldt said. "He coached at Texas Tech, the University of Texas and Appalachian State. He was the offensive line coach at Appalachian State when Coach Horton was the running backs coach. They have been friends for about 20 years."

Feldt certainly has the mentality of an offensive lineman.

"I like to run and just hit people," Feldt said. "I like to put them on their backs - you know, a pancake. I think I do that very well."

Pilot Point seems poised to bust through this season after just missing the playoffs last season.

"We went 6-4 in the regular season and barely missed the playoffs by points," Zandt said. "This year we are ranked No. 2 in the state with a lot of people coming back and we are a whole lot stronger. We actually started 15 sophomores last season who are now 15 juniors with experience."

He said that while he loves run blocking and feels it is his strength, he is doing his best to develop his pass blocking skills.

"I wouldn't call it a fault, but I would say that the thing I am working on the most is my pass blocking because we only put the ball in the air like five times a game," Zandt said. "I got a lot of good individual attention at this camp to help with that, including that little kick slide thing that doesn't allow a guy to get to your inside."
