Benton County may have less money in its savings account at the end of this year, County Comptroller Richard McComas said.

The county must pay an extra payroll this year that was not accounted for in the 2008 budget. The extra payroll, which will be around $1.2 million, happened because of leap year and one or two days that have compounded for about nine years, McComas said. The budget will be adjusted at the end of the year after reviewing funding other departments return to the general fund. The adjustment could mean unrestricted reserves go from $3.5 million to around $2 million, he said.

The county adjusted its expected revenue down earlier this year. McComas said some figures used in projects included numbers from before Bella Vista incorporated. The error was discovered in December.

The county's current projection is around $8.7 million in revenue this year, according to documents passed out at the Finance Committee on Tuesday.

The Committee of 13 also approved creating three new positions: a criminal investigator to oversee the sexual predator program, a telecommunicator and a jail transport deputy. All wage adjustments and reorganizations were also approved 8-2 and won't need Quorum Court approval. The budget adjustments are made at the end of the year.

The personnel changes will impact this year's budget by $69,239 and next year's budget by $154,579. Salaries increases for elected officials were not addressed Tuesday.
