ROGERS - The cause of a Rogers soldier's death in Iraq has been called in to question.
Sgt. 1st Class Anthony Woodham died from non-combat related injuries on July 5 at Camp Adder, Tallil, Iraq, according to a news release from Maj. Keith Moore, public affairs officer with the Arkansas Air National Guard. The release was issued Monday.
The Associated Press quoted Army officials on Wednesday as saying Woodham died of cardiac arrest and there was no sign of electrocution.
"We followed the medical documentation in our reports," said Capt. Anthony Rushing. "I couldn't say how this happened. That electrocution claim was something said by someone in the rush of the moment."
Moore stated in the initial release that Woodham died of injuries resulting from contact with an electrified piece of metal in the vehicle maintenance area.
Moore said on Wednesday that he could not comment further.
"We are deferring all questions until the investigation is complete," Moore said.
Woodham was serving his second tour in Iraq with the 39th Brigade Support Battalion, 39th Brigade Combat Team based in Heber Springs.
Funeral services will be announced by Stockdale Funeral Services of Rogers.
