ROGERS - A mother was fatally shot Wednesday night in her children's presence by a relative the family invited to stay in their home, a neighbor said.
Police found Veronica Robles, 37, shot to death at 2606 Graham Drive just after 9 p.m. Wednesday. She was shot "numerous times" with a .45-caliber handgun and pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Rogers Police Department news release.
Police were searching Thursday for Sergio Morales-Carrera, 23, the cousin of Robles' husband, in connection with the shooting, said Rogers Lt. Mike Johnson.
As their mother lay dying on the floor, Robles' three youngest children ran out into the street, said Beverly Allred, a neighbor. They screamed in unison, "He shot our mom, he shot our mom. Call the police," Allred said.
She said she watched as a man drove off in the family's truck.
Robles' 15-year-old daughter collapsed in the street, and Allred wrapped her arms around Robles' 5-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son, she said. Robles' 18-year-old son also was home at the time, she said.
The three oldest children told Allred they shielded their youngest sister from the arguing by taking her to the opposite end of the house.
Robles' husband was in Memphis, Tenn., for work when the shooting happened, Allred said. Allred said Robles told her the family took in Morales-Carrera but that he had been causing problems and they recently had asked him to leave.
Allred was working in her front yard when she heard loud screaming across the street Wednesday night. A few minutes later, Morales-Carrera left the home, went to a truck parked in the street, then walked back into the home. Seconds later, Allred heard three shots, she said.
Police recovered a 1989 GMC truck missing from the residence around 8:39 a.m. Thursday at Tesoro Beach Restaurant at 701 S. Thompson St. in Springdale, according to a Rogers Police news release.
Police didn't find a handgun in the truck, which was parked in front of the restaurant, said Springdale Police Lt. Scott Lewis. Springdale Police officers searched the restaurant but found no one in the building, Lewis said.
Morales-Carrera may be with family in the area, Johnson said.
The children were released to their father after Rogers Police officers interviewed them at the department Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon, Johnson said.
The 5-year-old girl refused to leave Allred's side to go with the police officers Wednesday night. An officer spoke quietly with the girl and gave her a teddy bear to hold. Officers later found shoes to cover her bare feet, Allred said.
Robles' oldest son, Oscar, arrived at the house Wednesday night to be with his brothers and sisters, Allred said. After police interviewed Oscar, Allred said she asked him if he was OK.
"He said, 'Bev, I got to be for my sisters and brothers,'" she said.
The family was in the process of moving from Rogers to Bentonville, Allred said.
"All I can see is the screaming," Allred said, sitting on her front porch Thursday afternoon and gently touching her temple.
The body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock for an autopsy, Johnson said.
The last homicide in Rogers was in early 2005, he said.
Anyone with information regarding Morales-Carrera can contact the Rogers Police Department at 636-4141.

I hope the kids did not witness it as well.
Where is LULAC now? Will they come to this guys defense too? Most likely citing Profiling and Cultural Differences.
Can't wait to hear Mr.Miranda's Explanation of this crime in the Hispanic community as well... "

keeparkansaslegal - shame on you for besmirching a great place like the Jones Center for Families. I guess that since the sign on the door reads that all people who behave like Ladies and Gentlemen are welcome, you don't feel very welcome. "

These are the predatory businesses that ignore Immigration laws. Once caught employers should have the heaviest penalties thrown against them. Unless they have used the government E-verify data base and those hired have been shown to be legal. Then penalties should be harsh and severe. They are stealing jobs from citizens and legal residents, which should be classed as a 'A' felony. If convicted should be heavily fined, business assets confiscated to add funds to ICE.
If caught with more than five illegal immigrants in their employ, should be locked away for at least 5 years. No half-measures like using factory managers as a scapegoat. No matter their highest echelon, no Chairman, CEO, Director should be able to shun our laws. Millions of regular people are joining for free www.numbersusa.com, to stop this travesty of our immigration laws. "

My 16 yr old daughter was murdered and I couldn't care less what color the killer/s happens to be. We still don't know who did it, but I can guarantee they were not Hispanics. You can go anywhere in the world and find ppl who have something against another ppl.
Yes there are many illegals here but not all of them are Hispanic. And it isn't as easy as walking across "an invisable line" Some of those ppl pay shiesters every penny the family has to get into this country. They pile them into trucks, they die, they get sick and some of them get caught. Those that make it and get jobs work for nothing. And they work their butts off! Yes some are criminals but not all. Most of the ppl are families trying to stay alive, just like the rest of us. Do I think it's ok for illegals to collect funds from our gov, send their kids to school for nothing(don't pay taxes), free med. when we can't get it? NO!!! Something needs to be done about illegal immigration soon no question. And BentonCo jail is a pit!!!IMHO "

Gun Control, To know how to use both hands and/or To hit what you are aiming at.
If the Government would inforce the gun laws on the books now there would be less crime and criminals. There is no more need for more "Gun Control".
Since the Supreme Court has JUST ruled that the Second Amendment is valid and that the public "has the right to keep and bear arms". If people would become effective with firearms, some of the violent crimes could be discouraged.
I hope that this Killer is cought and punished to the fullest extend of the law and that my thoughts go out to the victims family. "

Fact: Crimes are being committed everyday by hispanics that are here illegally. Yes, other races commit crimes too but if they weren't here the crimes wouldn't have happened. "

It's almost funny who you can tell on here who are hispanics....by the tone of their comments....
I cant tell you how many times I've open the internet to read the paper and the TOP headlines were about hispanics that commited SOME type of crime....pathetic...to say the least..
and then for the family member to jump on here...and obviously NOT read any of the comments that were left just ads to the pathetic-ness....we are all so sympathetic to the tragedy at hand...it's awful..and I am sure most agree that that's where most of our anger comes from....the fact that this was sensless...the fact that the crime was commited by a hispanic is moot compared to the reality of most of these comments.....make sure you READ all the comments...thru and thru...befor having a hissy fit....
Much love and respect to the family during this time..may God be with you. "
