A wrongful death lawsuit was filed Thursday accusing a Fayetteville man of causing a collision that killed an elderly woman turning into a church parking lot on a Sunday morning in March.
Ronny J. Miller was cited for careless driving from the accident, on Arkansas 59 between Decatur and Gravette on March 2, according to an Arkansas State Police report.
Wanda E. Carlson, 76, of Decatur was driving north and stopped her 1990 Mercury Sable to turn left into the parking lot, according to the police report.
Miller attempted to pass Carlson on the left side. The suit claims he was speeding. Miller's vehicle struck Carlson, injuring her and destroying her vehicle.
Carlson was taken by helicopter to Northwest Medical Center-Springdale, where she died March 8.
The suit was filed by attorney William Mayo on behalf of Carlson's heirs - her children, Renae Pierson of Locust Grove, Gary Carlson of Lake Wood, Wash., and Eldon Carlson of Decatur; and her two sisters, Louise Ford of Gentry and Rosella Evans of Siloam Springs.
The suit seeks damages for burial costs, mental anguish, medical and other expenses. It was assigned to Circuit Judge Xollie Duncan.
