BASKETBALL

• SONICS TRYOUTS: The Springdale Basketball Association Sonics will hold tryouts for the coming season for players in grades 2-7. Teams are formed based on elementary school boundaries that feed particular middle schools. Players must reside in the Springdale School District. • BENTONVILLE TRYOUTS: The Bentonville Tigers will hold tryouts for the coming season on Aug. 7 for players in 10th through 12th grades. Tryouts will be at Tiger Arena from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Players need to have an updated physical on file with the school before trying out. Call Mike Nelson at 254-5138.

FOOTBALL

• GREENLAND MEETING: Greenland athletes in grades 7-12 need to meet in the high school cafeteria Thursday at 6 p.m. to fill out player information sheets and discuss the upcoming season. Senior high practice will begin Monday from 8 a.m.-Noon. Junior High practice will begin Monday from 3-5 p.m. 7th graders may participate also. Call Coach Sutton at 263-1712.

• BENTONVILLE: Practices will begin Aug. 4 for Bentonville Black/Lincoln teams. In order to participate, athletes must have a physical on file with the school district. The practices are mandatory for athletes who wish to play this season. Practice times are: Black team - equipment checkout Thursday, July 31 from 8-11 a.m. at Tiger Stadium. Practices are 8-10 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. on Monday-Thursday and 8-10 a.m. on Friday at the Tiger Soccer/Track complex. • ROGERS SIGNUPS: The Rogers Community-School Recreation Association registration for the 2008 Youth Tackle Football League will be taken until Aug. 9 at the Rogers Activity Center. There will be two leagues offered: 4th-5th grade and 6th-7th grade. The registration fee is $50 per player (RAC Membership Required). Each player must show proof of a current physical (2008), before equipment will be given out.

• YOUTH SIGNUPS: Signups for fall football will be held through Aug. 18 for players in grades 1-7. The cost is $85 and some scholarships are available. Also, teams are forming in Springdale that will play teams from neighboring towns. Call 756-9459 or 409-5638.

• TEAM ARKANSAS SCRAMBLE: A 3-person scramble is set for today at The Golf Club at Valley View in Farmington. The cost is $225 per team. It is an 8 a.m. shotgun start and all proceeds go to Arkansas Elite Basketball Club. Contact Rusty Wooward 263-7157 or email teamarkansas@pgtc.com.

• BENTONVILLE FOP SCRAMBLE: The Bentonville Fraternal Order of Police 4-person scramble is Aug. 8 at Lost Springs Golf and Athletic Club in Little Flock. Call 936-6881.

• WEST FORK SCRAMBLE: The West Fork Tiger 4-person scramble will be held Aug. 9 at Razorback Park Golf Course. Entry fee is $75 per person. Call the course at 443-5862 or Brian at 236-3948.

• MAVERICKS TOURNAMENT: The Arkansas Mavericks will host a four-person scramble on Aug. 23 at Valley View Golf Course in Farmington with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $300 per team and lunch is provided. Deadline to register is Aug. 20. Tournament will be flighted and will have cash prizes for longest drives, closest to the pins and longest putts. • ALS CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC: The ALS Association of Northwest Arkansas will host its 3rd Annual Golf Classic at the Bella Vista Country Club on Oct. 3. • MEMBERS SOUGHT: The Bella Vista Women's 18-hole Golf Club is accepting a prorated membership fee for the remainder of the season. Dues are only $25, plus $5 for those who have not already paid a handicap fee. Any member who wishes to participate in the hole-in-one award pays an additional $10 fee. • BV WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT: The Bella Vista Women's Golf Club will sponsor the 39th Northwest Arkansas Women's Golf Association "Summer's Flip-Flop into Fall - Part 2" on Sept. 4 at Kingswood Golf Course. This event is open only to BVWGC 18-hole members and other Northwest Arkansas Women's Golf Association (NWAWGA) members and clubs. MISCELLANEOUS

• FITNESS FOR FUN: Registration for the fall session of Fitness For Fun is now open. Fitness For Fun is a wellness program for the University of Arkansas community and surrounding area. Membership includes fitness testing, stress test (EKG) and blood lipid profile, 10-week exercise program with personal training, program orientation, HPER building membership and access to HPER fitness center, courts, pools, etc. Fees are $215 for a full-time student and $235 for faculty or others. RUNNING

• RUN FOR THE GRAPES: The 12th Annual Run for the Grapes presented by First Federal Bank and the Fayetteville Tri-Sport Athletic Clubwill be held on Aug. 9 at 7 a.m. Pre-registration prior to Aug. 4 is $15 for the 5K Run/Walk and $8 for the Kids Fun Run. Pre-registration after Aug. 4 is $20 for the 5K Run/Walk and $10 for the Kids Fun Run. Students or Tri-Sport Members receive a $3 discount. The event features a 5K Run/Walk and a Mile Kids Fun Run. SOCCER

• ROGERS LEAGUE: The Rogers Community-School Recreation Association registration for the 2008 Youth Fall Soccer League will be taken until Aug. 9 at the Rogers Activity Center. Children ages 4-17 are eligible to participate. Children must turn 4 by July 31, 2008 to participate. The registration fees are as follows: Little Kicksters (4 yr. olds) and Under 6 ($40), Under 7 through Under 12 ($50), and Under 14 through Under 18 ($100). Each participant must have a current RAC membership ($20). The membership is current for one (1) year from the date of purchase.

• INDOOR LEAGUE: Registration is now open for the U5-U8 fall youth indoor soccer leagues at All Star Sports Arena in Springdale. Deadline is Sept. 3, while the first game is Sept. 13. SOFTBALL

• NWAYP HAWG STEW: The Northwest Arkansas Young Professionals coed tournament is Aug. 23 at Lake Fayetteville softball park. Games start at 9 a.m. Teams must have an even ratio of men and women. • FALL PREP LEAGUE: The Fayetteville Lady Dawg Fastpitch Booster Club is putting on a Fall Fastpitch League, which will run from Sept 15-Oct 23. Individual sign-ups will be accepted through August 15, or players can sign up in person at Lady 'Dawg Yard on Aug. 7, or Aug. 14 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. or sign up online at ladydawgs.org, Teams will play at least 14 games and be put together in a manner as to promote the best level of competition. TENNIS

• ROGERS HIGH: The first practice for the Rogers High tennis team will take place on Aug. 11 from 4-5:30 p.m. at the tennis court behind the high school. Students must have completed a physical, must have a signed consent form and must wear proper attire. Contact Coach Cowan at 636-8088.

• JUNIOR LEAGUE: The Northwest Arkansas Junior Tennis League runs through Aug. 27 at Bella Vista Tennis Center. Play will be on Wednesdays and the time is TBD. The cost will be $15 per participant.

VOLLEYBALL
