ROGERS - Matthew Reese, 26, of Springdale won't be teaching in a classroom when Rogers schools begin Monday, said Ashley Kelley, district communication coordinator.

Officials said Thursday that Reese would teach at Oakdale Middle School, but reversed that position Friday afternoon.

Rogers police arrested Reese on Tuesday in the Walmart parking lot at 4208 Pleasant Crossing Blvd. Reese was trying to buy methadone, hydrocodone and oxycodone, police said.

Reese was taken to the Rogers Police Department and released on felony citation. He faces a Sept. 22 arraignment before Benton County Circuit Judge David Clinger.

Kelley refused to answer questions about Reese's employment. She would not say if Reese had been fired or resigned or whether he was suspended with or without pay.

After The Morning News requested Reese's personnel records Friday, Kelley denied the request, saying personnel records are not public record until an employment status is resolved.

Kelley also would not answer questions about whether Reese still works for the district but in a capacity other than classroom teacher.

Kelley repeatedly said the issue is a personnel matter.

"I know there's a thousand questions you want answered, but legally, that's all I can say," Kelley said.

" This guy should be at least reassigned until his day in court. I'd hate to fire him right now because I believe in a presumption of innocence, but I also don't want to suspend him WITH PAY until this is settled. Put him on some temporary duty while this case makes its way through the system. "

" Give him something else to do until this is resolved. He has not been proven guilty yet. This guy made a mistake....like my favorite quote from Seabiscuit says, "You don't throw a whole life away just cause its banged up a little." "

" The only place I would want him at my child's school is a night custodian. What if he had drugs at home, brought them to school and gave them to kids?? If he is to be reassigned, it should be as far away from the students as they can get him...night custodian, filing papers at Administration building where he could be constantly watched, etc. "

" calm down jeanie, what if the sky was falling to,the man got busted for trying to buy drugs not selling them to kids,he has ruined his life and will probably go to jail for awhile, but to start throwing the what ifs around is not right, and I am sure if all those that automatically find him guilty would look under your own rug before worrying about this guys you see you aint perfect either,as the saying goes,he who lives in a glass house should not throw stones,so lets see what happens first.
