An educational session on the operation and management of Beaver Lake will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 26 at Arvest Bank in downtown Bentonville, said Benton County Planning Director Ashley Pope on Tuesday.
The session was originally planned in the Quorum Court room, which holds up to 65 people. The bank's conference room at North Main Street and Legion Lane holds up to 100.
"I wanted to make sure anyone who wants to come on the spur of the moment would be able to come," Pope said.
The session will feature Army Corps of Engineers Park Ranger Alan Bland and corps Operations Manager Sean Harper, who will discuss how they work to manage the lake. The lake provides drinking water to about 400,000 residents in Northwest Arkansas and is an attraction for recreation.
The session is free. For more information, call the Planning Office at 271-1003.
Bella Vistans Petition Post Office
Some Bella Vista residents are petitioning for a half-day of service on Saturdays at one of Bella Vista's post offices.
Kay Strickland, who started the petition, said more than 100 residents have signed. The deadline to do so is 3 p.m. Aug. 29.
Strickland said she'd appreciate the Saturday opening at either 555 Memorial Drive or in the Highlands, but prefers the 555 Memorial Drive site.
Postmaster Jeremiah Coffey said a sample survey a few months ago showed an average of 16 Bella Vista residents come into the Bentonville post office between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays. That's not enough to support keeping a Bella Vista office open on Saturdays, he said.
If enough people sign the petition, a Bella Vista post office may open Saturdays for a trial period to see how many people come in, he said.
Those wanting to sign the petition should stop by Hutchinson Realty, 2872 Bella Vista Way, Strickland said.
