ROGERS - Marge Wolf resigned Monday as president of Main Street Rogers.

Her resignation is effective Sept. 7.

Wolf said there is nothing amiss in her leaving.

"I think I've completed what I set out to do here," Wolf said.

During Wolf's tenure, Main Street became a 501(c)(3) organization, the Rogers Historic Commission was established, and the program received national recognition, Wolf said.

Main Street Rogers received the Great American Main Street Award in 2004, the only Main Street organization in Arkansas ever to receive the distinction, and one of only 59 programs across the country to do so, according to the national Main Street Web site.

Wolf is leaving to become the executive director of the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.

"This is just the perfect opportunity at the perfect time for me," Wolf said of the opportunity to work at the food bank.

Wolf previously worked for Rogers United Way and said she has a "love for nonprofits."

"What I really enjoy is organizing things and getting them running smoothly," Wolf said.

Ed McClure is chairman of the search committee looking for Wolf's replacement. He is a Main Street board member and a Rogers attorney.

"I don't know if you can replace someone like Marge," McClure said. "She was the right person in the right place at the right time."

"Marge has definitely left her mark on Main Street," said Nathan Gairhan, the board chairman.

"Main Street Rogers will miss the leadership of Marge Wolf because she's taken that organization to new heights," said Mayor Steve Womack.

"But I understand where she's coming from," Womack said. "When you reach a certain point in your professional career, you look for new challenges. Marge has met every challenge at Main Street and she's ready for some new ones."

McClure said the search committee will review the achievements of Main Street during Wolf's tenure and examine qualities Wolf possesses that allowed her to see those projects through. The committee then will look for someone with similar qualities and skills, McClure said.

McClure said the position will be advertised in the newspaper and in professional publications. Resumes will be accepted through the end of September.

The committee will review the resumes, narrow the list for interviews, then make a recommendation to the board, McClure said.

Judy Hammond, the director of external relations for Northwest Arkansas Food Bank, did not return voice messages left for her Tuesday.
