Ice Cream Social
FAYETTEVILLE - The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the Arkansas Alumni Association will host its annual ice cream social from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House at 491 N. Razorback Road in Fayetteville.
Individuals are invited to bring the whole family to the free event.
In support of "Good Starts...Kind Hearts," participants are asked to bring school supplies for local schools.

Fayetteville Lions Club members have announced upcoming programs for August and September.

Artists Will Hear
Parker On Thursday
SPRINGDALE - The Artists of Northwest Arkansas will host guest speaker Rick Parker for the organization's meeting on Thursday.
Rick Parker, owner of Parker Conservation, Inc. of Gentry, a sixth-generation Arkansan, has been in both fine and decorative art conservation more than 30 years.
The group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in rooms 8 and 9 at the Jones Health & Wellness Center, 610 E. Emma St. in Springdale. Social begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Parker did his graduate work at the Smithsonian Institution's Furniture Conservation Training Program in Suitland, Md., and then became a staff member in that program.
Parker has lectured at the Smithsonian, the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, Colonial Williamsburg and the Canadian Conservation Institute. Parker has worked on objects from the White House, Mount Vernon, Monticello, The Hermitage, Biltmore, Beauvoir and many individual presidential collections. Parker, a published author, has also lectured and taught at numerous colleges and universities and regularly lectures state and regional historical associations.

Auxiliary Meets
On Thursday
BELLA VISTA - The ladies auxiliary of the Bella Vista Robert M. Sterrett Veterans of Foreign Wars Post will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at the post, 103 Veterans Way, adjacent to Lake Bella Vista and the Veterans Wall of Honor.
A program on cancer research and detection will be presented. The women also will plan their participation in the Bella Vista Health Fair to be held Sept. 25. The event is sponsored by the Schmieding Center.
Members and guest may bring their lunch for fellowship prior to the meeting. Drinks will be provided.

Brandon Speaks
To Archeologists
FAYETTEVILLE - Jamie Brandon, an archeologist with the Arkansas Archeological Survey, will discuss "Why Do We Dig Up The Recent Past?: Historical Archeology in the Arkansas Ozarks" during a meeting Aug. 24 at the Fayetteville Public Library.
The meeting is free and begins at 2 p.m. The session will be in the Walker Community Room of the library, 401 W. Mountain St.

Calico Cut-Ups
Convene Aug. 25
BELLA VISTA - Calico Cut-Ups Quilt Guild will hold its August meeting at 1 p.m. Aug. 25 at First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive in Bella Vista.
This month's program is "Red and Green Quilts" given by Nancy Hornbeck of Wichita, Kan. A short business meeting will follow the program, and the meeting will conclude with "show and tell." The vendor will be Bittersweet Quilt Shop, owned by Donna Hill and Robbi Triplett and located in Joplin, Mo.

Aids Program
FAYETTEVILLE - Several restaurants are participating in the Eat Out for Scholarships program, which benefits the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Washington County.
Restaurant partners donate 15 percent of the cost of the meal for those who dine at the establishments on Tuesday nights.
Partners include Penguin Ed's Bar-B-Que, Mermaids Restaurant and Hugo's. Greenhouse Grille has been a part of the August program, but has delayed additional participation because of construction surrounding the restaurant. Additional dates for Greenhouse Grille will be announced later.
Plaza Sets
Aug. 25 Event
BELLA VISTA - The Plaza at Highlands Crossing, Arkansas' first senior housing cooperative, will host a "Dog Days of Summer" program from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 25.
The public is invited to come and enjoy ice cold watermelon.
The Plaza, a 59-suite residence for independent seniors, is at 1 Highlands Crossing Drive in Bella Vista.

Meets Tuesday
BELLA VISTA - The Bella Vista Book Club will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive.
"Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston will be discussed. Visitors are welcome. Those attending are asked to wear name tags.
Men's Club
Plans Benefit
The Highland Church men's club, The Hummers, will host the third annual Arnie's Army Battles Prostate Cancer Golf Tournament on Sept. 27 at the Kingsdale complex in Bella Vista.
The event is a four-person scramble. Proceeds from the event will sponsor, at no charge, prostate exams by the Arkansas Prostate Foundation mobile unity and Benton County Urology staff on Sept. 29.

Slates Meeting

Fees for eight-hour classes are $24 for members and $40 for nonmembers. Four-hour classes are $12 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Classes are held at the Computer Club's Classroom, and there also will be free Open House Computer Help Clinics from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Sept. 6 at the Computer Club's Classroom. The classroom is also located in the Highlands Crossing Center.

Plans Event
BELLA VISTA - Iota Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will hold its first social event of the 2008-09 year on Monday.
Spouses are invited to attend the 6 p.m. social at Tanyard Creek Pavilion. Each member is asked to bring a heavy hors d'ourves. Beverages will be provided.
