    BASEBALL

    • SPRINGDALE FALL LEAGUE: Springdale Kiwanis Cal Ripken Fall Baseball signups will be held through Aug. 27 at the Springdale Youth Center. The cost is $35 per player. Games will be played on Saturdays beginning Sept. 6 and ending on Oct. 18. Call Troy Blackston at 225-7457.

    • 12U TRYOUTS: A 12-Under competitive baseball team will be holding two tryouts in the month of August. To be eligible for the team, a player cannot turn 13 before May 1, 2009. Contact Don Arrick at 903-4940 or Marc Bryant at 366-2752.

    • PLAYERS SOUGHT: NW Arkansas competitive baseball team is looking for experienced players for the 2009 season. Prospective players cannot turn 10 before May 1, 2009.     • LOOKING FOR PLAYERS: Anyone interested in playing baseball this upcoming year for Ecclesia College in Springdale can contact Coach Alderman at 866-0468.

    BASKETBALL

    • SONICS TRYOUTS: The Springdale Basketball Association Sonics will hold tryouts for the coming season for players in grades 2-7. Teams are formed based on elementary school boundaries that feed particular middle schools. Players must reside in the Springdale School District. Coaches are also needed for the season.     • ADULT LEAGUE: Registration for Springdale Adult Basketball League is Sept. 2-12 at the Springdale Youth Center. The cost is $325 and must be paid in full to reserve a spot. All players must work or live in Springdale to be eligible to play. League play will start Sunday, Sept. 28 and run through late November.     GOLF

    • MAVERICKS TOURNAMENT: The Arkansas Mavericks will host a four-person scramble on Saturday at Valley View Golf Course in Farmington with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $300 per team and lunch is provided. Deadline to register is today. Tournament will be flighted and will have cash prizes for longest drives, closest to the pins and longest putts.     • WILLIAMS MEMORIAL: The 4th Brandon Williams Memorial Tournament will be Saturday, Sept. 13 at Prairie Creek Golf Course in Rogers with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. It is a 4-person scramble.     • MR. MULLIGAN'S SCRAMBLE: The Third Annual Mr. Mulligan's golf scramble, sponsored by the Friends of Highlands, will be held on Sept. 14 starting with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. at the Highlands Golf Course in Bella Vista. Teams will consist of two males and two females. Couples wanting to play should pick up an entry form at any Bella Vista pro shop or call 855-4031. The cost is $45 per couple. Proceeds from past tournaments have allowed the Friends of Highlands to make improvements to the Highlands Golf Course.

    • ALS CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC: The ALS Association of Northwest Arkansas will host its 3rd Annual Golf Classic at the Bella Vista Country Club on Friday, Oct. 3.     • MEMBERS SOUGHT: The Bella Vista Women's 18-hole Golf Club is accepting a prorated membership fee for the remainder of the season. Dues are only $25, plus $5 for those who have not already paid a handicap fee. Any member who wishes to participate in the hole-in-one award pays an additional $10 fee.     • BV WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT: The Bella Vista Women's Golf Club will sponsor the 39th Northwest Arkansas Women's Golf Association "Summer's Flip-Flop into Fall - Part 2" on Thursday, Sept. 4 at Kingswood Golf Course. This event is open only to BVWGC 18-hole members and other Northwest Arkansas Women's Golf Association (NWAWGA) members and clubs. The entry fee is $37 per person or $74 per team for BVWGC 18-hole members. For non-BVWGC members the entry fee is $47 per person or $94 per team. Call Nancy Gross at 855-1916.

    MISCELLANEOUS

    • FITNESS FOR FUN: Registration for the fall session of Fitness For Fun is now open. Fitness For Fun is a wellness program for the University of Arkansas community and surrounding area. Membership includes fitness testing, stress test (EKG) and blood lipid profile, 10-week exercise program with personal training, program orientation, HPER building membership and access to HPER fitness center, courts, pools, etc. Fees are $215 for a full-time student and $235 for faculty or others.     SOFTBALL

    • ROGERS HIGH TRYOUTS: Rogers High will hold tryouts for softball on August 25, 27 and 28 from 4-6:30 p.m. at Northwest Park. All students who tryout must have a current physical before participating. Contact Coach Mike Harper at 636-2202.

    • NWAYP HAWG STEW: The Northwest Arkansas Young Professionals coed tournament is Saturday at Lake Fayetteville softball park. Games start at 9 a.m. Teams must have an even ratio of men and women.     • PLAYERS SOUGHT: The NWA Heat is currently looking for competitive softball players to complete their roster. They are currently 12U and will move to 14U in the fall.     • FALL PREP LEAGUE: The Fayetteville Lady Dawg Fastpitch Booster Club is putting on a Fall Fastpitch League, which will run from Sept 15-Oct 23.     • JUNIOR LEAGUE: The Northwest Arkansas Junior Tennis League runs through Aug. 27 at Bella Vista Tennis Center. Play will be on Wednesdays and the time is TBD. The cost will be $15 per participant.

    • ACADEMY AT PINNACLE CC: The fall tennis program at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers will begin its fall session next week. Nonmembers are welcome. Classes are offered for ages 3-17 and for all levels of players. Contact Jonathan Zielke at 418-7445 or jzielke@pinnaclecc.com.

    VOLLEYBALL
