    Jazz Band

    BENTONVILLE - NorthWest Arkansas Community College offers a course in jazz education. "Jazz Band" is a performance-based lab for students of all instruments and skill levels. The course includes techniques, jazz theory, harmony and improvisation strategies. Students supply their own instruments, and public performances are required.

    The class meets from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. Ben Harris is instructor.

    Offers Workshop

    SPRINGDALE - The Schmieding Center for Senior Education offers its free Family Caregiver Workshop from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Schmieding Center location in Bella Vista.

    Health & WellnessSlates Programs

    SPRINGDALE - Community Health & Wellness, the health education department of the Jones Center For Families, has scheduled several classes.

    All classes meet in the Harvey Jones Health Education Building, 610-A E. Emma Ave., unless otherwise noted. Upcoming classes include:

    • CPR Classes: The classes teach participants cardiopulmonary resuscitation and techniques for helping conscious and unconscious choking victims and follow American Heart Association guidelines. Graduates will be certified in Basic Life Support for two years.

    Heartsaver First Aid classes meet from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Registration: 750-6550.

    • CPR for Family & Friends is a noncertification course for basic CPR skills. There is no cost, but space is limited for the class, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 28. Registration: 750-6550.

    • Stretch & Flex - Meets from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday in the Aerobics Room. Class is free.

    • Balanced Bodies - Meets from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday. Free. Information: 750-6550.

    Jones CenterSeeks Vendors

    SPRINGDALE - The Jones Center for Families seeks vendors for the eighth annual Jones Center Health Fair from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 24. Table fee is $20.

    Walking Club

    Meets Thursday

    The Ozark Hill Hikers walking club of Bella Vista, associated with the American Volkssport Association, will meet at 1 p.m. every third Thursday at the Village Insurance Community Meeting Room, 2838 Bella Vista Way in Bella Vista.

    Arthritis Foundation

    Slates Training

    The Arthritis Foundation, Arkansas Chapter, will sponsor an Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Exercise Leader Training Workshop Core Program on Sept. 27.

    The training will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fitness Unlimited in Benton.

    The workshop will provide participants with instruction on how to organize and conduct an arthritis aquatic exercise program. It also will present an overview of rheumatic diseases and the Arthritis Foundation.

    Group Plans

    Area Meeting

    Secure Arkansas will host two town hall meetings regarding illegal immigration in Northwest Arkansas this week.

    The first meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Rogers Public Library community room. The second will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Jones Center for Families in the chapel.

    Secure Arkansas is a grassroots organization addressing immigration.

    Raffle Aids

    Area Patient

    On The Mark Sports Bar & Grill will host a prize raffle from noon to 7 p.m. Sept. 13.

    The event will benefit local patient Mary Ebert.

    Donations also may be made at any Arvest Bank.

    Items to be raffled include an autographed basketball from the 2007-08 Razorback team.

    A handmade quilt and spa package also are among the raffle items.

    The items will be raffled off after the Arkansas vs. Texas game. Individuals must be present to win.

    Circle Of Life

    Sets Training

    Circle of Life Hospice will hold a new volunteer training in September.

    The volunteer training will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Circle of Life campus, 901 Jones Road in Springdale.

    Volunteers are given the opportunity to improve the quality of life for others by doing what it is they do best - from providing visits, playing music, reading or being a friend to those in need.

    Circle of Life volunteers work side-by-side with Circle of Life professionals to provide care and compassion to families and patients facing a life-limiting illness.

    The training is free. Lunch will be provided.

    Artists Sought

    For County Fair

    The Fine Arts Department of the Benton County Fair will be accepting artwork at the new fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 8 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 9.

    Judging will be Sept. 10.

    Artists must be from Benton County, and the exhibited work should be no less than two years old.

    All artwork must be framed and ready to hang. All ages are welcome.
