ROGERS - An accident Saturday afternoon left one man dead and another in the hospital, an official said.
Benton County Sheriff's Office responded at 5:09 p.m. to Stateline Road near the northwest corner of Benton County for an auto accident, said Sgt. Brandon Rogers.
The identities of the injured and deceased men have not been released, Rogers said adding the accident is still under investigation.
One man is in the Gravette Medical Center in stable condition. The body of the deceased will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock for an autopsy.
The man in the hospital is conscious but doesn't remember much from the accident, Rogers said.
The truck was heading west on Stateline Road and failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the road and hit a tree, Rogers said.
After the impact the tree "went up in flames," Rogers said. One man was trapped inside the vehicle.
Sulphur Springs Fire Department responded to the scene.
The sheriff's office accident reconstruction team was still on the scene Saturday evening investigating the accident, Rogers said.
