FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino will run through the "A" for the first time in Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Saturday night.

And when he does, he'll pass over a new Razorback logo at midfield and begin his own set of traditions at Arkansas.

"I'm certainly looking forward to running out into the stadium Saturday night and running through the 'A' and seeing 74,000 people in the stadium," Petrino said.

Every college football coach must decide when he arrives at a new school which traditions he wants to keep in place and which new ones he'd like to start.

In his 10 seasons as Arkansas' coach, Houston Nutt led his players through the "A" before every kickoff. And every victory ended with him gathering his team together for the singing of the school fight song.

It remains to be seen how Petrino plans to celebrate wins, whether he will continue the singing of the fight song or decide to start a new tradition.

Arkansas fans will notice one major change as soon as they take their seats on Saturday for the season opener against Western Illinois.

Arkansas' grounds crew painted an outline of a large Razorback logo at midfield on Wednesday, and while it wasn't finished by Thursday evening, it will be done by Saturday's kickoff.

At the same time, Arkansas' players will don new uniforms for the season opener. The changes include a black outline around white numbers and white stripes across the shoulders and down the sides.

Petrino wanted to update Arkansas' uniforms, and he worked with adidas to give the Hogs a new look. In addition, the university will debut a pregame video to be shown before the players take the field.

Arkansas has also tested fireworks that are expected to be shot from Reynolds Razorback Stadium at some point Saturday night.

Arkansas associate athletic director Kevin Trainor couldn't confirm when the fireworks will come, whether it will be before kickoff, after every Razorback score or at the end of the game.

Meanwhile, the university announced earlier this week some new stadium policies, one of the more notable ones being a ban on tobacco use both inside and outside Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

At the same time, fans will not be allowed to leave the stadium and then return without having an unused ticket. A strict no re-entry policy is now in place.

Arkansas officials went as far as to post a large list of which items are and aren't allowed inside the stadium on the stadium. The banned items include alcohol, outside food and backpacks.

But Petrino will no doubt be allowed in.

"When the stadium is full and everyone is there fired up, there will be a lot of adrenaline, a lot of butterflies," Petrino said. "Just exactly what you want for an opening game."
