Program Showcases Regional Authors
FAYETTEVILLE -- The Fayetteville Public Library will host the second annual Ozark Writers Live!, a showcase of regional authors and their writing, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Ozark Writers Live! is the library's premier literary event and is a unique opportunity to meet and learn from some of the best writers in the region. Author readings, hands-on workshops and group discussions of fiction and non-fiction work will occur in concurrent sessions throughout the day. The final author talk begins at 4 p.m.
Authors slated to attend include Donald Harington, Dusty Richards, Tony Wappel, Ethel Simpson, Robert Cochran, Radine Trees Nehring, Pat Carr, Andrea Hollander Budy, Arkansas Poet Laureate Peggy Vining and many others.
Most authors will speak about 50 minutes, including time for question-and-answer sessions. Books will be available for purchase.
The library will also host an exhibit of historic Fayetteville photographs, courtesy of Bob's Studio of Photography, during Ozark Writers Live!
This event is free and open to the public.

Aquarium Society Changes Time
The Northwest Arkansas Aquarium Society has changed the time for its monthly meetings.
The organization now meets at 7 p.m. the second Sunday of each month.
The meetings are in the Community Room of the Rogers Police and Courts Building.

Artwork Raffle Aids Alzheimer's
Original artwork donated by local artists Rebecca Whisenhunt, Alexis Welch, Judy Harris and Jeneal Rogers will be sold at raffle with the proceeds going to the Alzheimer's Association.
The event is through the efforts of the Home Instead Memory Walk team.
Tickets are $1 each and may be purchased at the Home Instead Senior Care office, 100 N. Dixieland Road, Suite A4 in Rogers.

Pugs Available For Adoption
Pug Rescue of Northwest Arkansas has a variety of dogs that are homeless and in need of adoption.
Pug Rescue is a nonprofit organization that strives to protect, bring back to the best health possible, and find forever homes for pugs, which through no fault of their own find themselves homeless.
In early July, the organization had three dogs available. Late last month, there were 19 in need of homes.
Pug Rescue is looking for families who would like to adopt or foster. All pugs have been altered and are up-to-date on their vaccinations. Applications for (permanent) adoption or (temporary) fostering can be obtained on the Internet at puglover.petfinder.com or may be picked up at Supercuts across from the Mall Walmart in Fayetteville.

Benefit Slated For Sept. 15
FAYETTEVILLE -- A Spay Arkansas benefit is slated for 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at George's Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville.
Music will be by Steve and the Recliners, Candy Lee, and Earth Society.
Cost is $5.

Education Of Boys Program Topic
The department of education reform at the University of Arkansas presents a lecture and discussion on the education of boys.
Sara Mead of New America Foundation and Jelani Mandara of Northwestern University will speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale and again at noon Friday in Room 343 of the Graduate Education Building on the university campus in Fayetteville.
Both presentations are free and open to the public.
Registration is required for the noon lecture on Sept. 12.

Exercise Programs Begin Sept. 15
BELLA VISTA -- The next session of the Flex 'n Stretch exercise program is scheduled for Sept. 15. Flex 'n Stretch is a program of exercises designed to help maintain flexibility and control in muscles and joints. This is low-impact exercise that many people find very helpful. Trained instructors teach the classes that start at either 7 or 8:15 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The fee for the 10-week class is $45.

Library Raffles Television
Bella Vista Library is selling raffle tickets for a 26-inch RCA LCD/HD television that has been donated by Sam's Club in Bentonville.
Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5 or 15 for $10. All proceeds go to the library. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the membership desk at the library.
The winning ticket will be drawn Sept. 19 at Western Roundup fundraiser dinner at Riordan Hall. Entrants need not be present to win.
Die Cast Show Slated Saturday
The Central States Hot Wheels Car Club will host the inaugural Die Cast Car Show from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Christian Center of Bentonville, 1700 Moberly Lane.
Booths are $20 or $30.

Hospital Auxiliary Seeks Volunteers
SPRINGDALE -- The Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary seeks additional volunteers to fill hospital and community needs.
Volunteers support hospital staff in areas such as the information desk, the Surgery Intensive Care Unit waiting room, the surgery waiting room, the guest house, the gift shop, escort services and the thrift store on Park Street. Volunteers also are needed at Willow Creek Women's Hospital's information desk.
Volunteers are most needed at Northwest Medical Center's information desk from noon to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and from 8 a.m. to noon Thursdays, and in the Surgery Intensive Care Unit waiting room from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays. All shifts are available at the gift shop.
Those interested in serving in any of the volunteer positions may contact Lesa Tucker, volunteer coordinator, at 757-4101.
Handweavers Guild Meets Saturday
The Northwest Arkansas Handweavers Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Art Center of the Ozarks, 214 S. Main St. in Springdale.
Marilyn Stewart will present the program with the slides from her one-woman weaving show in Marshall, Minn.
The guild meets at 10 a.m. the second Saturday of each month at the Art Center of the Ozarks.
Visitors are welcome.
Artists Sought For County Fair
The Fine Arts Department of the Benton County Fair will be accepting artwork at the new fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Judging will be Wednesday.
Artists must be from Benton County.
All artwork must be framed and ready to hang. All ages are welcome.

Quilt Fair Slated In Gentry
The Gentry Quilt Fair will be Oct. 10-18 at the Gentry Public Library.
McKee Foods Inc. is sponsoring this year's event. A co-sponsor is Guthries Fabric.
The event is part of the city's second annual Fall Festival.
Janie Parks is the chairman of the event.
Those who would like to enter should contact Parks at 736-2340 for an application.
Many entries from last year have already expressed interest in participating in this year's event. Cash, ribbons and prizes will be given away.
