FAYETTEVILLE — Pro basketball legend and AIDS advocate Earvin “Magic” Johnson will speak Oct. 16 at the University of Arkansas.

Johnson won five NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers and an Olympic gold medal as part of the 1992 “Dream Team.” He retired from pro basketball in 1991 after revealing he had tested positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Johnson has worked since his retirement as an AIDS advocate and businessman, focusing on underserved urban communities.

He will appear at 8 p.m. Oct. 16 in Barnhill Arena as part of the university’s Distinguished Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public.
