LITTLE ROCK -- Of all the ways to represent late 20th century culture, why did the Clinton Library organizers choose motorcycles?
Library Director Terri Garner says the choppers fit with everything the center wants to accomplish. The library is coming up on its fifth anniversary and more than 1 million people have already visited. Attendance remains above expectations, Garner said, yet the library wants to provide a fresh exhibit to entice previous visitors to return and to invigorate tour organizers.
The exhibit begins Saturday with the library's American Classics Festival on the grounds along the Arkansas River. Events include a barbecue contest, live music, and a March of Dimes motorcycle rally.
In February, the library is to feature presidential portraits and other works by pop artist Peter Max. In 2009, there will be an exhibit on the space program, including a 40th anniversary celebration of the moon landing.
