Reception Set For Hines
A reception for longtime chiropractor Jerry Hines is planned for 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Club Frisco, 105 W. Poplar St. in Rogers.
This is Hines' 50th year as a chiropractor.
The reception is drop-in.
Center Offers New Yoga Class
SPRINGDALE -- The Jones Center for Families now offers a yoga class at the center. Introduction to Yoga will be from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Wednesday and will meet every Wednesday through Nov. 19 in the aerobics room.
Instructor Linda O'Connell will help participants learn proper breathing and body alignment, as well as movement with breath and stretching without pain. Yoga is conducted in an environment that promotes tranquility of mind and body. There is a one-time supply fee of $30, which includes the required mat, block and belt.

Program Taking Enrollment
Enrollment is taking place for the 2008-09 school year for 3- and 4-year-old children for Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters.
The home-based program teaches children math and language skills, eye-hand coordination, science exploration, problem solving and many other academic skills. HIPPY runs throughout the school year, and all materials are supplied. The parents becomes their child's first teacher and prepares the youngster for school success.
Openings are available in the Farmington, Lincoln, and Prairie Grove school districts.

Electronic Records To Be Topic
Elder LifePhases -- Bella Vista will sponsor a seminar on Electronic Medical Records.
Dr. Hugh Donnell will discuss the benefits and safety issues of electronic medical records and explain who can access them. The free program is open to the community and will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Oct. 23 at Highlands Crossing Community Center (downstairs classroom), 1801 Forest Hills Blvd.

Continuing Education To Cover Falls
SPRINGDALE -- The Arkansas Geriatric Education Center and the Schmieding Center will present a workshop for physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers and counselors.
The program, "Falls: Risks and Prevention for the Health Care Professional," will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Schmieding Center for Senior Education, 2422 N. Thompson Ave. Participants will receive two hours of continuing education credit.

Chili Bowl Slated Oct. 18
FAYETTEVILLE -- The second annual Chili Bowl II will be from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Northwest Arkansas Mall.
Chili Bowl II is a chili cook-off and chili-sampling event to raise money for the Brain Tumor Society. People from Northwest Arkansas and all over the United States are welcome to put their chili to the test, vying for the title of Best Chili Bowl Chili.
Entry fee is $20 to compete in Chili Bowl II and $5 for juniors.
Turn in time is 1 p.m.' sampling and voting for favorite chili will start at 1 p.m. and will continue until 2:30 p.m. with the award ceremony to follow at 3 p.m. The public can purchase chili-sampling kits for $5. Chili chefs are required to provide their own supplies.
The Chili Hawg Pod of Northwest Arkansas is a local chapter of the Chili Appreciation Society International or C.A.S.I. The Chili Bowl II will be an official CASI cook-off. For more information and official CASI rules visit www.chili.org.

Dog Scout Troop Plans Dog-tober
BELLA VISTA -- Dog Scout Troop 150 is sponsoring Dog-tober Festival from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Tanyard Creek.
The day will include games, vendors, auctions, and a Halloween costume contest for dogs.
There will also be a pledged walk to help with Troop 150's community project: purchasing bullet-resistant vests for area K-9 units.

School Holds Information Session
SPRINGDALE -- The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts in Hot Springs will hold an informational meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Jones Center for Families, Room 222. This meeting is to provide information about ASMSA, such as course work, class sizes, residential life and extracurricular activities, to interested students and their families.
ASMSA is a public residential high school for academically advanced juniors and seniors. While attending ASMSA, students participate in a rigorous academic program designed to educate tomorrow's leaders through instruction, laboratory experiences, and technology.
The 112 members of ASMSA's Class of 2008 earned more than $12.4 million in scholarship and grant offers.

Quilt Fair In Gentry
GENTRY -- The Gentry Quilt Fair will be Friday through Oct. 18 at the Gentry Public Library.
McKee Foods Inc. is sponsoring this year's event.

Support Home Schedules Exams
BENTONVILLE -- Washington Regional Cancer Support Home will offer free clinical breast exams from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 306 Arkansas 72 East.
The manual examinations are performed by physicians and registered nurse practitioners. Appointments are required.
This is not a mammogram. However, follow-up mammography and imaging services for women without insurance coverage for mammography are also available. Interpretation services will be provided on the day of the clinic for Spanish-speaking women. To schedule an appointment, call 271-2257.
'Sensory Loss' Will Be Topic
SPRINGDALE -- The Schmieding Center for Senior Education will present a continuing education seminar for nursing assistants on "Sensory Loss" from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Schmieding Center for Senior Health and Education, 2422 N. Thompson St. Lynda Gay Spilman, education assistant for the Schmieding Center for Senior Health and Education, will be the guest speaker.
Susan C. Reinhard will be the distinguished lecturer on "Getting Beyond the Status Quo on Long Term Services for Older People: What Needs to Happen?" from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the center.
Admission fee is $5 for non-Schmieding graduates requesting certificates. Community and Schmieding Center graduates are welcome without charge.

VFW Sponsors Essay Contest
Local area home schooled and public school students may enter the annual Patriotic Scholarship competitions offered by the National VFW and locally sponsored by the Bella Vista Robert M. Sterrett VFW Auxiliary Ladies and Post members.
Students in grades 6-8 are eligible to enter the Patriot's Pen written essay competition. The theme this year is "Why America's Veterans Should Be Honored."
The Voice of Democracy is an audio/written essay contest for grades 9-12. This year's theme is "Service and Sacrifice by America's Veterans Benefit Today's Youth by ...."

Health Fair Slated Oct. 18
SILOAM SPRINGS -- "It's All About You," a health fair for all ages, will be from 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 18, under the big white tents in the parking lot of Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital, 205 E. Jefferson St.
The fair will feature local health care vendors and others from Northwest Arkansas.
The hospital lab will offer a comprehensive blood test that screens for diabetes, liver and kidney function, and total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides. The comprehensive blood test will be available for $15. Participants must fast at least eight to 12 hours prior for accuracy.
A prostate cancer screening blood test for men also will be administered for $15.
Lab test forms are available from the hospital by calling Aimee Morrell at 549-2443 or e-mail to amorrell@ssmh.us. Lab test forms also can be downloaded from the hospital's Web site, www.ssmh.us (click on Hospital News). Forms also will be available the day of the fair.
During the health fair, free checkups will be given, including blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index, body fat measurement, pulse/oxygen, nutritional assessment, bone density screening, simple spirometry and much more.
Giveaways for children as well as adults will be available.
The American Heart Association's Heart Walk will be held at 9 a.m. the same day, beginning at the site of the health fair. At 8:30 a.m. Heart Walk participants can turn in late registration and money. The Heart Walk event also will feature a survivors walk. Children's Festival Slated Today
ROGERS -- The Rogers Education Foundation will host the Celebration of Children Festival from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Rogers High School, 2300 S. Dixieland Road. The event will feature games, inflatables, live entertainment, a children's art contest and free T-shirts for first 200 entrants.
This fun family event is organized by the Rogers Public Education. The $5 entry fee includes lunch and all activities.
Quilters Slate
Oct. 17, 18 Show
ROGERS -- Quilters United in Learning Together will host a special "mini" quilt show Oct. 17 and 18 as part of the Ozark Regional Arts and Crafts Festival at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center. Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
About 35 large quilts and 50 small quilts will be displayed. Also on display will be the guild's donation quilt. "Strawberry Lemonade" is a summery concoction of piecework and applique. Many guild members made blocks and it is hand-quilted.
Nationally-known quilter Mary Sorensen will present three classes during the show which will include a vendor's mall, demonstration and special exhibits.
