    Students Receives Degree At KU

    A local student was among more than 900 students who received degrees from the University of Kansas after the 2008 summer session.

    Quin Allison Showalter of Bentonville received a master of science in education degree.

    Because KU conducts only one formal commencement ceremony each year, many of these graduates will return as members of the Class of 2009 to take part in commencement exercises May 17.

    Madson Receives AT&T Scholarship

    Kendall Madson of Rogers has been awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the AT&T Foundation -- the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc.

    For the 2008-09 school year, 630 students will receive foundation scholarships for the first time.

    Madson, a graduate of Rogers High School, is attending the University of Arkansas, where she will pursue study in animal science.

    AT&T Foundation scholarships are awarded to students pursuing undergraduate study at accredited four-year and two-year colleges and universities, as well as military academies, in the United States. The competitive scholarship selection process is based on an individual's overall merit, including academic achievement, leadership skills, work experience, awards and honors and participation in school and community activities. Special consideration is also given to students who are in the first generation in their family to attend college.

    Hudgins Receives UA Scholarship

    FAYETTEVILLE -- Kathryn Hudgins, a poultry science major in Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas, has received a scholarship for the 2008-09 school year.

    Hudgins received the Randal Tyson Memorial Scholarship. She is a 2007 graduate of Bentonville High School and is the daughter of Mike and Janet Hudgins of Bentonville.

    Three Receive Scholarships

    FAYETTEVILLE -- Samantha Jones and Stacy Rahat, both of Fayetteville, and Kelsey Ray of Springdale were awarded scholarships from Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas for the 2008-09 school year.

    Jones, an environmental, soil and water sciences major, is a 2007 graduate of Fayetteville High School and is the daughter of Doug Jones and Ruth Jones of Fayetteville. She was awarded the Division of Agriculture Land Grant Scholars Scholarship, the Harold and Iva Hicks Scholarship and the M. Sam Offutt Scholarship.

    Rahat, a food, human nutrition and hospitality major with a concentration in dietetics, is a 2006 graduate of Fayetteville High School. She is the daughter of Mary Rahat of Shawnee, Okla., and Fred Rahat of Tehran, Iran. She was awarded the Harold and Iva Hicks Scholarship and the Xzin McNeal Scholarship.

    Ray, an apparel studies major, is a 2003 graduate of Springdale High School and is the daughter of Donna Akers of Huntsville and David Ray of West Fork. She was awarded the Ethel Owen Adair Scholarship.
