SPRINGDALE -- Katelyn McCarthy hammered 15 kills to lead Bentonville to a 3-0 sweep over Springdale High (25-19, 25-23, 25-7) Thursday in a 7A-West Conference match.

Tatum Fredeen added nine kills for Bentonville while teammate Roxi Hazelwood chipped in 23 assists. Sydney Thurow also contributed four service aces and Jamie Haworth added 10 digs for the league-leading Lady Tigers.

Springdale (2-9 7A-West) was led by Kristin Hylton who had eight kills and a pair of blocks. Lauren Perry and Anna Troutman also added four kills each for Springdale.

Bentonville (22-4, 10-1) hosts Fort Smith Southside on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

    Fayetteville def. Rogers High

ROGERS-- Fayetteville's Haley Martin slammed 23 kills to help the Lady Bulldogs leap past Rogers High 3-2 (25-19, 24-26, 25-22, 23-25, 16-14) in 7A-West action.

Fayetteville (17-12-1, 6-5 7A West) was also aided by Sara Phitzinger with 11 kills. Cassie Clark aldo contributed 21 digs, 40 assist, and four aces.

Rogers dropped to 16-8 and 7-4.

    FS Southside def. Rogers Heritage

FORT SMITH -- Fort Smith Southside pulled away from scrappy Rogers Heritage 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-10) to remain within a game of first place Bentonville in 7A-West Conference volleyball on Thursday night.

Nicollette Milam had nine kills and three other Southside players -- Chelsea McKim, Britney Taake and Kristen Finch -- added seven kills apiece to power Southside (17-7 overall and 9-2 in 7A-West play).

Sophomore Shelby White led the War Eagles (2-21, 0-11) with 12 kills before leaving the game with an injury. She didn't play in the third game.

Marisa Shaw added four kills for Heritage and Rachael Crum added 18 digs.

"I think Heritage is much improved," Southside coach Steve Haaser said. "The third game, their best palyer was on the bench. They've improved."

First-year coach Sarah Miser's team led throughout much of the second game before a series of hitting woes, and kills by McKim, swung the momentum.

After falling behind, 19-17, Southside tied the game and took a 20-18 lead when McKim -- acting as if she was going to bring the hammer -- tipped the ball out of the reach of Shaw.

The Confederettes took the lead for good early in the third game on back-to-back kills by Finch and Carson Hunter.

"We're playing a lot of people and we're going to need everybody doing their job," Haaser said. "It's a good team win."

Lindsey Layes led Southside with 18 digs and setters Whitney Hale and Olivia Caldwell had 20 and 14 assists apiece.

The Lady Feds will compete in the Rogers Tournament this weekend, then gear up for a tough four-game stretch that includes two defending state champs -- Bentonville Tuesday and Lake Hamilton (6A champ) on Oct. 23.

    Springdale Har-Ber def. FS Northside

FORT SMITH -- After a slow start, Springdale Har-Ber turned up the heat and burned Fort Smith Northside 25-19, 25-15, 25-12 in 7A-West volleyball Thursday.

Northside led the early part of the first game and led 16-14 at one point. But Har-Ber woke up and ran off seven straight points to grab the momentum on the way to a 25-19 win.

"Our intensity wasn't what it should have been at the start, and it took us a little while to get in a groove," said Har-Ber coach Sandy Jones. "It seemed like we were kinda stuck in mud."

Har-Ber (17-4, 7-4) solidified its shot at a state tournament berth and Northside (5-13, 3-8) continued to tinker with the lineup and try to find some identity as the season winds down.

Northside coach Catherine Young liked the way her team started out, but not being able to keep the momentum is a problem the team has had too often.

"We started out good," Young said. "But we ended up bad."

Kirstie Hesseltine led Har-Ber with 10 kills. Sydney Marsellis had seven kills and seven blocks for Har-Ber. Katie Collins had 13 digs, Molly Bowman served four aces and sophomore Alicia Swearingen made five kills.

Young said Tanisha Tucker was the leading hitter for Northside.
