FAYETTEVILLE -- Masked men broke into First Western Bank on East Joyce Boulevard at 1:30 a.m. Friday, creating a hole in the building to get inside. The men took no money but got away with an undetermined amount of bank property, according to a police news release.

The bank's surveillance cameras caught images of the three men breaking into the bank at 1676 E. Joyce Blvd. next to the post office. The burglars gained entry through the hole, and police identified one of the men without a mask as a white male. The other two wore masks to hide their identity, according to Sgt. Tim Franklin with the Fayetteville police.

The men disabled the bank's alarm after gaining entry. A bank employee arriving for work noticed the hole and contacted police at 8:09 a.m., according to dispatch reports. The bank closed for the day.

A similar incident occurred on Nov. 30 of last year at the same bank branch, and the two crimes could be related, Franklin said. At that time, the bank's security video showed three masked males forced entry into the bank at 3:25 a.m. The suspects attempted to break into the vault and steal an ATM machine, but the men failed to take any money or property. No weapons were visible in the bank's surveillance footage in either incident.
