    Democratic Women Host Fundraiser Dance

    The Washington County Democratic Women will host "BBQ, Barn Dance & Bandanas" from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at 19179 McCord Road in Elkins. The fundraiser will include square dancing, food, a live pie auction and silent auction. Live music will be provided by Strange Heroes. Tickets cost $20; proceeds will go toward local Democratic candidates' campaigns and the club.

    Welcome Club Slates Breakfast

    BELLA VISTA -- The Bella Vista Welcome Club will meet for its October breakfast at 9 a.m. Oct. 24 at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista.

    The food will be cooked by Papa Mike, and the program will be the Hoot 'n Holler Cloggers, led by Kathy Fidler.

    P.E.O. Chapter Schedules Meeting

    BELLA VISTA -- P.E.O. Chapter CD will meet at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 20 at the Village Insurance Community Room, 2838 Bella Vista Way.

    Granny's Quilts Sets Meeting

    Granny's Quilts of Love will have a cutting meeting at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church in Pea Ridge, so bring scissors.

    Senior Democrats Hold Victory Rally

    The Senior Democrats of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at Western Sizzlin in Springdale. The group will host a Victory Rally for the following candidates: Jim House and Earl Hunton for the House of Representatives, Marilyn Edwards for County Judge, and Sharon Green, Ann Harbison and Candy Clark for the Quorum Court.

    Women's Connection Hosts Luncheon

    FAYETTEVILLE -- The Women's Connection will host a "Design Stars" luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Clarion Inn, 1255 S. Shiloh Drive in Fayetteville. The luncheon will feature LaVerne Feagin from Edible Arrangements, piano music by Tina Power, and the presentation "Getting in Touch with the Perfect Designer" by Jan Smith of Olathe, Kan.

    Cost of the luncheon is $12, and all area women are invited. Attendees may make reservations for the free nursery by calling 251-1419 or 549-7360.

    Dance Club Meets Wednesday

    The Starlight Dance Club will meet Wednesday at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista. There will be a dance lesson from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by dancing to recorded music until 9 p.m. The entry fee is $2 per person or free to anyone with a Property Owners Association photo ID card.

    Golf Association Slates Fall Luncheon

    BELLA VISTA -- The Five Hole Golf Association will hold its fall luncheon on Nov. 3 at Metfield Country Club in Bella Vista.

    A social hour will begin at 10 a.m. and a Mexican-themed lunch will be served at 11 a.m. Tickets are $12 and include ice cream sundaes for dessert.

    Send checks made out to Five Hole Golf Association to Nancy Will, 37 Grier Drive, Bella Vista 72714. The deadline is Oct. 17.

    Garden Club Plans Events

    BELLA VISTA -- The Bella Vista Garden Club will meet the fourth Wednesday in October at United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road in Bella Vista.

    Social time will start at 11:30 a.m. and refreshments will be served at noon, followed by a meeting and program. The monthly club meetings will resume in January and continue through April. The public is welcome.

    The club will host its second annual card party from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Nov. 14. The cost is $40 a table.

    VFW Ladies Will Meet

    The Ladies of the Robert M. Sterrett VFW Post in Bella Vista will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday. Members and guests are invited to bring their lunch prior to the meeting for fellowship.

    Members will be assisting in the distribution of Poppies for Veterans on Nov. 7 and 8.

    Computer Club Sets Clinics

    BELLA VISTA -- The Bella Vista Computer Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Community Room at the Highlands Crossing Center, 1801 Forest Hills Blvd.

    The program will be a demonstration on how to use Skype to make free calls via the Internet and will be presented by Chuck Billman and Don Hood.

    The meetings are open to the public.

    There will be free Open House Computer Help Clinics from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Nov. 1 in the Computer Club's classroom in the lower level of the Highlands Crossing Center.

    The Geneaology Special Interest Group will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the club's classroom.

    Ladies Day Out Plans Fall Trip

    Ladies Day Out will travel through the Boston Mountains to reach Lake Fort Smith State Park on Oct. 21.

    After a box lunch and time at the park, participants will stop at Artist Point Gift Shop and Boston Mountain Quilters on the return trip.

    Participants will meet for carpooling at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot across from the Bella Vista Town Center, just to the right of the Evangelical Free Church. The cost for the outing is $10.

    Book Club Will Meet

    BELLA VISTA -- The Bella Vista Book Club will meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 21 at the First Methodist Church of Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive. The book to be discussed is "Suite Francoise" by Irene Nemirovsky. All are welcome and encouraged to wear nametags.

    Quilt Guild Slates Meetings

    The Pieces and Patches Quilt Guild has announced its meeting schedule for the remainder of the year.

    • Oct. 20 -- Quilter's Tote Bag Workshop by Kathleen Baughman at 10 a.m.

    • Nov. 3 -- club meeting with refreshments at 12:30 p.m. and a Trunk Show by Betty Workman at 1 p.m.

    • Nov. 17 -- club workshop at 10 a.m.

    • Dec. 1 -- potluck luncheon and club fundraising auction Trash to Treasures.

    Sunflower Club Hosts Dinner

    The Kansas Sunflower Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in the dining room of Concordia Retirement Center in Bella Vista.

    This is a deviation from the club's usual meeting on the third Monday of each month. Dinner will consist of a choice of two entrees with a salad, soup, dessert and beverage, and will cost $7.26. A skit, "Way Out West in Kansas," will follow.

    All former Kansans are invited to join, and there are no dues.

    Dakota Club Slates Program

    BELLA VISTA -- The Dakota Club of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at Papa Mike's Restaurant at the Kingsdale Grill. Bella Vista resident Don Modica will present "Creating a Rainbow," a program about making stained glass art.

    A social time will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m.

    Anyone who has lived in North Dakota or South Dakota is welcome. Current club members will be contacted regarding reservations. All others may call 876-2621 by Oct. 24.

    Welcome Club Plays Bunco

    BELLA VISTA -- Members of the Bella Vista Welcome Club will meet to play Bunco at 11 a.m. Oct. 22 at the Metfield Clubhouse. The group plays the fourth Wednesday of each month.

    Women's Golf Plans Brunch

    BELLA VISTA -- The Bella Vista Women's Golf Club will host its Fall Brunch on Oct. 30 at Riordan Hall.

    Doors will open at 9 a.m., and brunch will be served at 9:30 a.m. The theme is "Black & White," and attendees are encouraged to dress accordingly.

    The cost is $10, and reservations are required. Checks should be made payable to BVWGC and mailed to Glenda Burris, 67 Dogwood Drive, Bella Vista 72715; they must be received by Oct. 22, after which no refunds will be issued.

    The club is accepting membership applications for the 2009 season. Forms are available in all Bella Vista pro shops and at http://bellavistapoa.com.

    Support Group Meets Mondays

    The Northwest Arkansas chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance meets from 7 to 9 p.m. every Monday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Fellowship Hall on the corner of Ninth and Oak streets in Rogers. This is a change in location from the group's former meeting place; the alliance is not affiliated with the Episcopal Church.

    The meetings are open to patients, family and friends.

    Blind Federation Sets Meeting

    The National Federation of the Blind of Northwest Arkansas will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Ozarks Electric Community Room in Fayetteville.

    The group meets the third Saturday of each month.

    DAR Announces Contest Theme

    The James Bright Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring the Junior America Citizens contest for all students in grades kindergarten through 12.

    This year's theme, "America Land of Opportunity," includes others seeking a better way of life in America, opportunities, which give a person a chance to achieve his/her dreams, or a chance to work hard get an education and reach one's goals.

    Winners are chosen by grade levels, as group or individual winners. Categories for entries include art (original poster, stamp design, theme banner or photographic essay), community service, or creative expression (original poem or short story).

    Lighthouses Will Be Topic

    ROGERS -- Individuals who enjoy lighthouses and adventures visiting lighthouses will meet Oct. 20 at the Rogers Wellness Center in Rogers behind Frisco Station Mall.

    The meeting of the Arkansas Lighthouse Society will begin at 10 a.m. and will be in the board room. Guest speaker Judy Pertle will talk about the Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Newport, Ore., where they served. All are invited.
