Mounties Scramble To Replace Tibbs
ROGERS -- Losing running back Michael Tibbs to a season-ending knee injury has left Rogers High coach Ronnie Peacock scrambling for a backup quarterback.
Tibbs switched to quarterback when the Mounties (3-3 overall, 1-2 7A-West) went to their Moonshine formation, but the senior was also listed as the backup to starting quarterback Andy Couture.
Couture will now get all the game snaps at quarterback as the Moonshine is shelved. Senior Austin Young will be his backup when the Mounties host Bentonville on Friday night.
"We have to have Austin Young ready because we need a backup," Peacock said. "Obviously, he hasn't taken a whole lot of snaps but he has played quarterback. He would be there from an athletic standpoint."
Young has four carries for 19 yards and four catches for 46 yards while logging time at receiver.

Defense has Har-Ber riding high
SPRINGDALE -- After watching film of last Friday's 28-13 win over Rogers High, Springdale Har-Ber coach Chris Wood said his team's defense played a great game.
"Our philosophy and goal is to stop the run," Wood said. "That's what you've got to do. Our guys really focus on that and our kids fly around to the football. They've played well all year."
The Wildcats (5-1, 2-1 7A-West Conference) held the Mounties to just 29 yards on 19 carries in the win. Wood said even in the team's loss this season it has been able to slow down the run.
"They continue to do that each week and looking down the road there are some really good running teams left on our schedule," Wood said. "We want to continue to improve our run defense because we have some big challenges ahead of us."
Har-Ber also improved to 4-0 at home this season with the win over the Mounties. The Wildcats get a chance to improve on that record Friday night with a Homecoming game against Rogers Heritage.
"We knew we needed to get that win and now we get a chance to build on that," Wood said. "Now we get another home game and a chance to get to 3-1 in conference play. You've got to win at home. That was huge for us."

Bulldogs Bound For Fort Smith
Springdale High coach Kevin Johnson said he's "not real fired up about" having to take his Bulldogs to Fort Smith for a second consecutive week. Then again, Johnson also said his players needed to remember that the Fort Smith schools have been traveling like this for years.
The Bulldogs will play in Northside's Mayo Thompson Thompson Stadium on Friday night, a week after losing a 55-52 shootout to Southside, desperately needing a win after falling to 1-2 in the 7A-West Conference.
"That was a tough loss to take," Johnson said. "We were up by 14 in the second quarter but just gave up too many points off mistakes."
Springdale quarterback Ashton Glaser didn't do much to hurt last Friday night, and the Bulldogs will need another stellar effort from the University of Missouri recruit.
He threw for 475 yards and four touchdowns on a sore left ankle.
"It was an amazing effort," Johnson said.

Fayetteville Still Fighting Injuries
FAYETTEVILLE -- Like every other team in the 7A-West Conference, and just about everywhere else, Fayetteville knows all about dealing with its share of football injuries. But unlike other teams, the Purple Bulldogs have seen some of those injuries occur to some of their more prominent players.
While other 7A-West squads are dealing with the usual bumps and bruises, the Purple'Dogs have been forced to play without some of their top players in certain games. Like last week, when senior left tackle Colby Berna (shoulder) and senior linebacker/running back Cody Hammer (ankle) were both forced to sit.
"Everybody has injuries," Fayetteville coach Daryl Patton said. "It's just that ours have occurred to some of our more counted on players. I mean when you lose two All-State players, that's tough."
Patton said both players were expected back in practice on a limited basis Wednesday and both would be listed as questionable for Fayetteville's game against Fort Smith Southside on Friday.
